Mani, I caught the bug. I just got a Mavic Mini. It's AMAZING! I'm a total beginner. The Mini was just released and a new Youtube video comes out almost every day. Like Wes said "drones have come a long way".

I'd like to try flying with goggles sometime, mostly I fly by site and use the camera to
see which direction I'm going.

I don't believe there are any discounts on the Mavic Mini. It's already priced really low. $399 for a fabulous drone. I spent $499 and got the extra batteries, charging kit, carrying case.

I’m getting one in the near future for my business, I’m getting too old to keep climbing these roofs to look for potential problems before we bid jobs

When I was in Denver I saw a roof inspector using a Drone or Quadcopter as this is called.

I was with an Allstate adjuster, it was amazing.....I’ll look and see what brand Allstate was using, I wrote it down somewhere

I’m sure there is software out there that will translate measurements from drone images......I already use that service with a company called eagleview, but the images were taken from a Cessna plane.....very accurate also, haven’t found one off yet on measurements from the thousands I have used.....eagleview Has images available of most markets......they have been doing this a long time......and I’m 90 percent certain it was done with planes and not satellite ????? They may use satellite by now, ???? That’s my best understanding of their company from a phone conversation with their rep from about 5 yrs ago, and the image photos look like they were taken from a plane as you can see all angles of the home, like they flew in a circle to get moth south east west elevation shots

The Mavic Mini is revolutionary. No license of any kind is needed because it weighs under 250 g. Not that getting a license is really that big a deal here in the United States. What makes it revolutionary is that it can do almost all the things that the DJI Drones can do but it doesn't cost $2000. You can pick it up for 399 although I would suggest spending 499 and getting the extended fly kit.

Bill yo need the mavic 2 pro or Zoom for good commercial pics. And you need part 107 commercial certification.
There are programs to do what you want to do.

We used LIDAR images at work and they were accurate. Elevation was only accurate to a couple tenths of a foot but still was a very handy tool.
The LIDAR measurements and photos were taken from a plane.

I was flying over a lake near me and found this guy. At one point I was so close to the gator that I was afraid he might grab me out of the air. I definitely need to get much smoother in my actions.

Martin, I have a DJI Phantom 3 you can try sometime.
It takes some practice but they're pretty easy to fly.
This model will come back to you when the battery gets weak
or it gets out of range.
