While I am not in the market for a new motorcycle, the simple fact that Indian has come out with a "sport" oriented naked bike is pretty interesting. I'm not fired up about the specs as compared to it's competitors, but at least it is a step in the right directions.

I'm not in the market, either, but I WILL go have a look. This is closer to what H-D should have done with their new FXDR, which, FWIW, has a whopping 66" wheelbase and that ghastly 240 rear tire

Pretty cool - a large scrambler - but without the big boxes and shit... the Triumph Bonneville has a package like this. I just need a (much) bigger garage and (much) bigger budget...

Cycle World had a cover story earlier this year about a one-off custom Indian that was apparently the prototype (or inspiration anyway) for this bike. Here’s the custom:
It was dubbed the FTR1200. It looks like it was the inspiration for the FTR1200S. Same engine, but different pipes. (In the article, it said that everyone who rode the custom burned their leg on those pipes, so a change was called for.)
It also looks to me like the frame on the production bike, the S, is longer and stronger than the custom bike's. The custom was styled after Indian's dirt-tracker with a bigger engine (1200 vs 750), but this production bike loses some of that look.
I’d rather think someone’s a son of a bitch than to have him think I’m a son of a bitch.
