Here he is again. I had to search for this one, since most of my pictures of all of you guy's from the website look exactly like this.

I see a phone on my belt and a bike that came on a trailer and ..... my arm around a guy? Well, at least I don't look too happy about it (even if I do like the guy).

          August 2012

The first time I met Rob, we met in the mountains and took a lot of dirt as we worked our way down to Ouray. We were taking a break at a quiet spot in the mountains when all of a sudden we heard cracking branches and grunting. Then this freaking bull comes out of the woods like he was on a mission.

          Bought this KZ400 Aug 1st 1977.
Picture taken the first week of September 1977 on our honeymoon.
Got a ticket that week for not having a motorcycle license.

All Bill Morgan promised was that the driveway would just be "wet!"

Okay, it is not Thursday. We all know that will be a busy day and I'll never remember to post then. Please forgive me and I will skip a few Thursdays. The picture involved with this post is in a very beautiful area of the SouthWest. The Vermilion Cliffs area is fantastic, go there and also do the Moki dugway. This photo is with a couple of rider friends on their Harleys. I was riding my beloved K1200RS Checkered edition. Loved that bike. First week I took it down to its parts to just look it over. Wife said WTF? This ride in the SW was nice but the Harley guys were puttsing about 50 most of the time. Yikes. That was below my minimum flight speed and the K went into aux cooling with the fan turning on most of the time. I would drop back a mile or so and then buzz them at 90 or 100 to just rattle their helmets. That skinny f..k on the right is Paughco. Well we moved on to California and Lee Vining. That afternoon in the pool with G&T's the subject of tractors (Harleys) came up. I said I would sell my seriously loved K bike if they would dump the Harleys. We would all buy GS BMW's to get on the same page. Well, it all happened. Things went well for a few years. I bought two more RS's, one I owned for two weeks as it was Dulfin Blue. A not to be identified color by any one on the road. Yes Officer, that bike went by fast but I don't remember what color it was. Well one day I was in the Seattle dealership and another checker bike was there cheap. I called up Al, aka Paughco and said you have 30 seconds to tell me if you want a good K bike. (I knew he was looking because 1150 GS's are dogs). He said yes, that is how we roll, hundred dollar bills and no looking back. I told the dealer sold and had the third RS. I agree they are heavy and all that but at the time they were the hot BMW. I learned a lot owing a GS. The value of good shocks comes to mind. The RS really makes you be careful as a mechanic. Me on the left, Roger a fellow marine chief engineer next then Denis a desk jockey for the state and Al his paper work buddy ( they spent their working days cleaning up the air and water). This Fall represents more than 50 years I have been riding with Al. I still have to keep an eye on him. If this is not a South West Americana picture I don't know what is. I have fond memories of many rides but I love the desert, you can see.

The Moki is not to be missed. And dinner at the swinging grill motel in Mexican hat is to live in the past. Many 40's and 50's movie people ate there.

"A picture is worth a thousand words," but sometimes words help. What a nice write-up to flesh out the bones on this picture.

Roger the guy to my right still rides Harleys but his go to bike is a KTM, The next guy, Denis does not ride anymore, health issues. Has a hot mustang. Al still has his high school Pan Head but rides BMW's. I have never gone back to Harleys. and won't.
