Hey - anyone with access to the Aussie whatsapp guys please send on this link.
The first person I thought of who would be perfect for the job is Mat.
I'd apply myself if I lived there - 10 half-days of work for a free freight, board, ferry trip to the IoM, or Barcelona, or NZ .... ..... ....
Dave at Get Routed has the following available...
Get Routed staff position available - Sydney
Hi all,
I am looking for someone to replace Andrew Hall who has done our Sydney container loading since 2003. Andrew is suffering ill health and his wife has Alzheimers which has added to Andrew's decision.
The arrangement I have with Andrew is that he ties each bike onto the shipping cradle and then loads the containers with the assistance of the depot forklift operators. Final part is screwing each cradle to the floor of the container.
The work is not difficult, but I do need someone who can reliably tie the bikes onto the cradles - the front of the bike is most important and critical to the success of our insurance claim free record.
Bikes with upside down forks do require special attention and tuition will be provided.
I envisage this position will be for the next 5 years and there is no money involved. In return the successful applicant will have his/her bike return shipped overseas (NZ, UK or Barcelona) free of charge every year he/she so desires. Also free accommodation & ferry tickets for the Isle of Man TT or the Classic TT can be included. The IoM TT package which includes accommodation, ferry tickets & return bike shipping is worth approx $7,500. Andrew has been with us to the TT several times and I'm still trying to convince him to come with me to the Classic TT next year - it will depend on his health.
Back in 2002 Andrew approached me (after seeing my advert in the Ulysses magazine) about helping in Sydney because he could see that bringing bikes to Melbourne for loading would be too much hassle for a lot of people. He was right and it resulted in an expansion of the number of bikes being shipped - not long later we started shipping from Brisbane. The guy we have up there has been loading containers since 2012 and he took over from a mate of his who had been doing it since 2005.
All equipment is supplied and depending on demand there could be up to 10 half days work per year. Would suit someone in 50s or 60s, either semi retired or fully retired. It might even be someone who would like to take over Get Routed when I eventually retire.
Next shipments (all subject to borders being open) to New Zealand will be loaded either just before Christmas or between Christmas & New Year, 2020. Then in late January, 2021 there will be a shipment to Barcelona and at the end of February a shipment to Felixstowe in the UK and in mid May there will be another shipment being loaded for the UK.
Obviously all returning shipments must be unpacked.
The Sydney loading depot is in Revesby. The successful applicant will be healthy and reasonably fit, but no heavy lifting is required. Sound mechanical understanding is important and a knowledge of many bikes will help, but common sense is necessary.
Kind regards
