Buying a Harley

That's a bike that not many of us would buy, based on our past performance, but the same rules apply, whether it's a Harley or a KTM. 27K miles doesn't sound like very many to me. Any records of past service history? Just askin'. If it rides well, with no obvious problems, I'd pull the trigger. But be careful not to shoot your eye out!I’d rather think someone’s a son of a bitch than to have him think I’m a son of a bitch.

I've talked to Ken many times since his exit from the forum & he raves about his Harley & is putting in the miles to show for it. Can't remember what model but he speaks very highly about it or at least the last time we spoke he did.
I agree with Pete... if it clicks all the right buttons, go for it. Of course, if you have a good shop that can service it if/when needed, that helps."Everybody knows you never go full retard". - Kirk Lazarus

Somewhere around 2013 or 14, H-D changed their entire bagger chassis, tank, wheels... come to think of it, the whole machine. The old ones don't handle for shit. I could tell you why.
The Screaming Eagle engine parts are short on performance... S&S is the way to go. Lots of chrome? I guess they run better all polished up. Harleys have nice paint.
Real used Harley retail is closer to 10k than 50 grand, you'll never sell it for more than 10-13k on the best day of your life. Use that ten grand as a down on a new bagger.
Met a guy in Sturgis who loved his Gold Wing... reliable, great handler, smooth, accelerates nice, has all the whistles and bells and cheap to maintain. Asked him why he dumped it for a Harley... he liked the sound!
Go ahead and waste your money, that 10k can buy you a great used BMW. Which will handle, go fast and be cheap to maintain.
Oh yeah, when you are crawling from light to light and you are suffering from a bad case of fried oysters, there is no way to deflect the heat. You have been warned.
Ken The "Mf'er" Grass does not own an old relic H-D. Go ahead, pull that trigger... you will only shoot yourself in the foot. Enjoy.

As much as I liked my 2004 Road King, I have to admit that the scorching heat from the motor in the summertime was brutal on my right thigh. There was a guy who made some leather and aluminum (Ithink) shields that could divert some of the heat. I didn't buy them so I don't know if they helped. Other than that. all good. No recalls on the Harley, unlike I've had on my 3 BMWs.
