I am sure that at my age, events have occurred in my life that are adversities. Somehow, I don't recognize them. I use tried and true psychological techniques without thinking about it: avoidance, denial, repression. As to adversity, a friend said it best: "No brain - No headache."
I saw a documentary on Pearl Harbor several years ago and they interviewed a survivor from one of the sunken battleships. He said after having a ship blown out from under him he hadn't had a bad day. I liked that attitude but it's hard to stay calm in all situations. Personally my motto gets me through, including one very bad day 9 years ago today. "NEVER EVER GIVE UP!"
Yes Tim, true. After what I went through in Afghanistan, have not really had a challenging day.
One really needs to have a situation which sets the bar so high, that other things appear as just a PIA.
