Just a tidbit of information on the Desert Inn and that period in history. It originally opened as a bordello for the cow hunters (cowboys) who worked cattle in that area. Those cow hunters were called crackers due to the type of whips they used when driving the herd.
Yep. I have several family members that live in the area (Lake Wales, Indian Lake Estates, and one near River Ranch). Cattle is half of the Ag industry today in Florida with 4 of the ten largest cattle operations in the country.
