    R.I.P. Clive Cussler.

Dirk Pitt has had his last diving adventure. Fun reads.

Jeff, they are best described as "campy," but fun.

I used to read his books when Dirk Pitt was the main character.

I just read another thriller/conspiracy/good guy saves the day book by Nick Petrie. A decorated Marine, Peter Ash, try's to deal with his PTSD while going to help his sergeant's wife after he apparently committed suicide. Before long Peter figures out it wasn't suicide after all and all kinds of stuff starts happening. "The Drifter" is the first of a series that I will likely read a few more into.

Nice trailer, Jeff. I'm interested now. BTW, I never enjoyed Cussler's other books as much as the Dirk Pitt series - but some of them are well regarded by readers and reviewers.

Just finished Jack Carr's "True Believer", the second book about James Reece. I enjoyed it much and it looks like it paves the way for a third book so Reece can keep cleaning up the continuous mess of wrongdoers that mess with him or people he cares about. I'll be watching for the next book in the series.

I’d rather think someone’s a son of a bitch than to have him think I’m a son of a bitch.

Just finished "Terminal List" by Jack Carr - A black ops Seal Team member's near entire team gets wiped out on an ill conceived mission, team leader and survivor of the mission Jack Reece, sets out on finding out what went wrong, and how to get even. An enjoyable read in the Vince Flynn/Mitch Rapp - Lee Child/Jack Reacher model with a conspiracy reaching to very high levels of government. Good guy takes out bad guys.

Also have been enjoying the Joe Pickett series by C.J. Box, a Wyoming game warden gets into and out of trouble on a regular basis. Colorful descriptions of the environs, and engaging characters. First in the series, "Open Season"
So I just finished "Open Season". I liked it and will read the rest of the series soon. Thanks for that recommendation.

In the meantime, I read "Burning Bright" and "Light it Up", the second and third books in a series about one of my other new favorite guys, Peter Ashe, by Nick Petrie.

Oh, and I read my first Mitch Rapp book, "Transfer Of Power", which I also thoroughly enjoyed, so now I will read that series as well.

          Thanks for the ideas.

PS I still found time to flush the brake system on my old GS with integral ABS, which I hate doing but it was past due.

Glad you're enjoying the suggestions - the Pickett series gets more enjoyable as it goes along, I just finished :"Breaking Point" and thoroughly enjoyed it. If you like The Mitch Rapp character, have you tried the Gabriel Allon series by Daniel Silva? If not, I highly recommend it, first in the series, "The Kill Artist". Allon is a Mossad assassin, and when not out killing bad guys, he restores renaissance art. Where Rapp is like a blunt object, Allon is more like a surgeons scalpel.

            Craig,
It was the Gabriel Allion series that got me back into reading after your recommendation. I have read every one of them in order, waiting for the newest, "The Order", to come out.
Also per your recommendation, I read all the David Slaton series and 3 or 4 Jack Aubrey books and Jim Reece series.
Then I read every Jack Ryan book in order plus a few more.

CJS350, your recommendations are unfailingly good ones. They get me out of my non-fiction rut once in awhile. The Wyoming game warden series will be my next go.

If you guys want to try some non-fiction for a change, I have just enjoyed "Churchill's Trials" an overview of his life and views by Larry Arnn. Churchill is well known, but he remains a fascinating guy who wins a few and loses a few, but is always in the fight. Another that I recommend is "War, the Father of Us All," by Victor Davis Hanson. It reminds me of unpleasant lessons too often forgotten. Terrifically well written.

I liked his first two hits. The DaVinci Code was a bit more interesting in some ways. Angels and Demons, however, was like a tourist's guide of Rome. I read it with google maps and the internet images at my side. Fun.
