    Anyone using a kidney belt?

Having developed some lower back problems in my old age, I am looking at kidney belts for lower back support, particularly for long-distance/multi-day rides. Looking through Revzilla, they are many available... I actually bought one by Leatt but it is way overkill so I am returning it. I am looking for something less obtrusive, which preferably I can wear under my jacket/pants. Do any riders onboard here use one or have any particular recommendations?

Sorry. I don't use one. I just slouch. I am not joking. I find it comfortable, keeps me out of the wind, and keeps bumps and jolts from going up my spine.

We had BMW kidney belts years ago but never wore them. If I were buying I'd try Copper Fit. Looks trim but effective..

I used to use one years ago, It was elastic and fastened with Velcro. I bought if from the JC Whitney catalog, anyone remember that? I don't know if if helped, and stopped using it years ago.

I have used a "Mueller" brand velcro secured back brace and like it. picked it up at the local CVS. It has plastic support strips vertically in the kidney region. the velcro allows for various settings for support.

I wish you good luck with that lower back....
          low miles, well maintained

I guess it depends on what is causing the back problem, but a belt may not be the best option.
You don't appear to be a couch potato so core strength and stretching is probably not the issue.
Have you seen a doctor and had an MRI?

Yes, the diagnostics have been done and, without going into detail, it's not pretty... the result of a life well-lived, perhaps... a body well-abused. I completely agree about stretching and core strengthening, and I'm guilty of having slacked off somewhat on strength training since retirement, so I'm getting back into the gym and working with a physical therapist.

That's your best bet. Work that core. Good luck.

Well, if all else fails............. there's always the upright seating position of the GS.

Sorry to hear of your back trouble Charlie. I suffered a Pro-lapsed Disc (revealed by MRI Scan) in 2013 and haven't had any Surgery...yet. I'm in nearly constant low grade pain and sometimes have to take Aleve to endure multi-day trips on my K1300S. I had a Kidney Belt (Stretchy w/Velcro attachment) for use with my Yamaha WR250 but I sold that bike >5 years ago. I don't wear the Kidney Belt at all on my K1300S and recently gave it to a Friend who needed it for his back issues.

I've been riding my new Mountain Bike (Framed Marquette 27.5 Plus) almost daily since September last year. After making some Stem/Handlebar/Handgrip/Seat changes, my back feels great when riding that bike! When we finally move to Show Low, I look forward to daily riding my Mountain Bike on the Buena Vista Trails immediately south of Snow Creek.

Hoping you soon discover some help for your particular back issue Charlie.
