    Bicycle Ride

I know some you guys do great distance but I am just working up to that. Several years ago Fast Eddie B rode his bicycle up to my house in the Washington DC area. He was living in the Miami area at the time. As I recall it took him around 10 days. That's about a 100 miles a day. I'm hoping to do a 100 mile day. Might be a little while yet.

Go for it, Pete. Bicycles are cool. There are several serious riders on this forum.

What's the make & model of your bike Pete? Kinda hard to make it out in the Relive pics.

So is my WR250 but I still can't ride it where ever I want...the Ebike is a go anywhere and don't be bothered set of two wheels.

I have friends with E bikes and they don't appear to be getting fit.

        Very nice bikes.

I'm riding a 40 years old Trek 970 (Columbus tubes) with a Campagnolo Record Gruppo (differs from the Super Record of the time by not having titanium bits) and with Cinelli handlebars and stem.

It's a boneshaker on rough pavement but great for hill attacks.

BTW, it takes about 3 years of training to start approaching your riding potential.

        And,

Fast Eddie B's ride is truly impressive!

He didn't ride back to Miami did he???

I did not remember Ed's ride exactly. If you do the math it was 35 years ago.

I envy you your good knees... Impressive stuff...Probably better for your longevity than soccer, yes?

I blew out the right knee Easter of 2019 playing soccer with the Old Fart Soccer Club. (over 40). It's already had two arthroscopic surgeries. Doc says the next one is a replacement. I'm hoping to avoid that. I can't really run and turning is out of the question. The bicycle keeps me active and opens up another social group. I miss the soccer and the camaraderie. I can still drink beer with the guys but it's not the same if you don't play.

            Nice bike Pete.....
I've been thinking of getting back into riding and the gravel bike makes sense for around here.

The nice thing about the disc brakes, you can use both wide and narrow tires.
Unlike a lot of carbon fiber road bikes the Gravel bikes will accept racks.

GS is a good way to think of a Gravel bike.

              Artificial joints and bicycling:

Back around 1980 there was a gentleman that did a 25 mile time trial at almost exactly 60 minutes.

That means an average speed of 25 mph.

The time trial was held by the United States Cycling Federation (USCF) in Tallahassee, FL.

Maybe not a record setter but the rider was 86 years old with bilateral artificial hip joints!
