Double flats today. Make sure your patch kit is up to date. Enough patches and glue. The rubber cement can dry out if the tube was previously used.

I have seldom successfully patched a tire on the road. Friends have. I suck at this and find carrying extra tubes and a hand pump the only sure way for me.

Just learned that my wife's father served on the Edmund Fitzgerald while he was in the Merchant Marines as a young man. He later appeared in the 1995 Discovery Channel documentary Shipwrecked: The Mystery of the Edmund Fitzgerald. There are scenes in the film of a ship being loaded with iron ore from a dock similar to the one in your pictures.
