    Another close call.

    Another close call.

We were heading to the store in our van to pick up groceries when there was another close call.

Waiting in the left hand turn lane for traffic to clear. It apparently does and the light turns red. Being out in the intersection we start our turn when a motorcyclist on a large displacement sport bike rapidly accelerates from nearly a block away. We stop our turn after crossing the centerline by about two feet. The motorcyclist swerves to his right and passes us at high speed. This is several seconds after the light changed.

The motorcyclist appeared to be trying to catch up with another bike that had gone through the intersection well before him.

I guess anything can happen on the road.

Glad you didn't get hit. I saw something like this two years ago that didn't end well. I pulled up to a red light in my car and stopped. From my right I saw a group of bikes coming and my light turned green which meant their light turned red. There were at least twenty five sport bikes strung out over a eighth of a mile coming going well over the 45 MPH speed limit and none of them even slowed down they just ran the red light. The last two were were at least 300 feet back and they didn't slow down either. My light was still green and a car pulled up on the opposite side of the intersection and proceeded to turn right on the green light. The second to the last bike hit the car at what I would estimate at 75 to 80 MPH. Killed the guy on the bike instantly. The last bike with a guy and girl slowed down to about 30 MPH looked at the carnage and just accelerated away.

I've just watched a video taken from a security camera. One of my friends, on his bike, crossing an intersection got t-boned by a pickup truck that blew through a stop sign at maybe 35 -40 mph. That my friend survived is amazing - 11 days in the hospital, lots of broken ribs, broken clavicle, and a host of other injuries, he's on the mend, no doubt a long and painful process, but damn..............

I was at the dentist this am and the hygienist tells me about the friend of a friend who recently died by electrocution while riding. He was following a Semi that somehow knocked down power lines that then fell onto him. Happened about 2 weeks ago according to her.

Back in the day, when we were young, my brother did that. Ran over a live wire that was down. He spilled after but got out of there in a big hurry. He was on a vespa. He was never a m/c guy and preferred the scooter. I had an RD 350 at that time.

Didn't mention before but on the same visit to the dentist's office the receptionist also related info on another recent accident here. A large group of HDs were heading thru an intersection with traffic lights. Two stragglers tried to catch up after the light changed and a large truck took them out.

I've got to stop going to the dentist!

      That's enough for now.

I think the city where I live instead of "Managua" should be called "Close-Call City". People are distracted on their phones, no courtesy or regards for others, and the motorcyclists are the worst. They die everyday in gruesome ways. I should probably post daily videos so you can see all the close calls... that now I just call it "riding".

I was recently considering giving away my racing leathers.

I think I'll keep them for now.

Pete, well it exciting at first. Cheating death or injury... but it gets old quickly. I think people develops a sort of "chaos surfing" a dance of close calls... Trust me, I don't want to crash my Audi A8 when I drive, less any of my bikes. But I don't think the motorcycle riders have gotten the memo. They ride about a foot from the next car, and keep crashing everyday. I asked one of them once, if it was a game? Because no one could be that astronomically stupid. Of course he shouted at me to mind my own business. Five minutes later he crashed into the car up front. What a moron. I see them everyday on the tarmac. I stopped feeling sympathy a long time ago. I fear them more than I fear cars. Cars are predictable, and drivers don't want to crash (unless they driving a Hilux). But riders are just low-income daredevils and behave like they have nothing to lose.
