Our pup made it to 17 1/2 today.

He's blind, somewhat crippled, and only awake about an hour a day.

Still wants to do his business outside.

And likes being on our laps or in his dog pouch on us.

He was a gift (leave behind) when our youngest left for college.

Very loyal and always wanted to be with me when doing any projects.

    Happy 17 1/2 Birthday Charlie!

I guess at that age we celebrate every day we wake up on the right side of the grass.
    Happy Birthday Charlie!

Enjoy your time with Charlie. After 14 years, we had to put my chocolate lab down on Friday. He was a great dog and will forever be part of my family.

I hate to hear that. It hurts so much to lose them. I've a soft spot for chocolate Labs. Seneca was 16 years, 4 months and 11 days. I still think about her every day.

        Charlie passed this morning.

        It was time.

        God bless his little soul.

Do dogs know when a companion dog is not longer around.

Your dog simply knows that their friend is no longer present and may exhibit one or more symptoms of grief including:
                  • Withdrawal from people and other pets.
                  • A lack of appetite.
                  • Lethargic behavior and sleeping more than usual.
                  • Unusually aggressive or destructive behaviors.
                  • Inappropriate elimination within the home.
                  • Calling out or vocalizing in an unusual way for the dog who has passed away.
                  • Searching for the companion dog within the home and other places frequented by the other dog.
                  • Becoming very clingy to the owner and following the owner around.
Our pitbull has exhibited the latter.

And when awake, she constantly keeps an eye on me.
