Touring Motorcycle Make and Dealership Support?

Just sold my K12RS after over 19 years and 67k miles.

The major reason was the Columbus dealership indicating they no longer will do major repairs on the '02 model.

Regardless of my willingness to pay for it.

"We don't do final drive repairs" on your bike.

As it turned out, my K12RS did not have a final drive issue.

I've heard of this with HD dealerships but didn't expect it from BMW.

    What say you?

I will chalk this up to a shitty dealer. The problem is dealers are few and far between.

I don't blame them, it's a classic or antique bike at that age.... getting good techs
is difficult these days and they need to concentrate on servicing the newer bikes
          they sell.
Buy a manual and learn to service it yourself or find an independent shop that will.

Agree about this from a business standpoint.

Consider a dealership doing $4k work (parts and labor) on a bike that is only worth $2k.

The customer decides the bike is not worth the cost and tells the dealership to just "keep it".

I've heard of some dealers not working on bikes older then 10 years.
          Seems crazy to me.
The shop we use most of the time, Engle Motors in KC works on old bikes.
One of the Master Techs retired last year but the shop asked him to come back and work a couple days a week on Airheads.

I guess the good news is that declining older bikes provides an entrepreneurial opportunity for service techs?
