    OK,f**k a turkey roaster. They's for newbies.

    The newest hoop is;

    Sitting here looking at a preemo set of Ducati endcans,going on my M12. They are missing the strappy things that go around them,for attaching to the frame. Making the metal bits of this strap is a NO BRAINER. What however, is the rubber insulator material?

    Yes,it's rubber...... any idears on a suitable type? Any and all responses of a 2nd grade and above gradient will be considered.

    Hmmm... any commercial boiler repair companies around there you can ask.
    The temperature has to be over 300f you think?

      Grocery stores can be great parts houses. Grab a silicone pot holder and cut to suit. Voila!

        How how does an exhaust get?
        Remember those Corvettes with the side pipes !

      Carbon fiber is used as a heat shield in some applications. $$$$$ compared to the grocery store solution.

        How about some high temp gasket material? That's pretty cheap at an auto parts store. I keep a sheet around as it's just handy stuff to have.

              I love the angle iron jig. Senior Backyard Technician stuff!

            Done for the day. Got a cpl O2 sensors in the mail today. What's that manufacturing theory going on these days? Just in time or some chit.... it's where the builder doesn't inventory,instead they time the contract parts to show up on such N such date? Well that's what happened.

            Learned so much. I made the "bullet nose" that goes inside the collector. It's the piece that connects the 4 primaries and smooths the flow. Well,I tried my best to make it more complicated. Next one will be easy peasy japaneasy.

            I bought a leather beater bag for a Christmas present,and made a baseball mallet. Getting a pnuematic planishing hammer in a few weeks........ anyfreakin way;

            The beater bag is the absolute doodoo for making collectors. You get the piece pretty durn close,and start tacking it where it's tight. Then either do the forming straight away with the residual heat,or hit it with a torch to heat it up. Lay it on the beater bag and use a cross pein hammer to really get the fit on. So again,the next one will be even better.

              Here's the "bullet"

              Stole the pic off the web. Mine is a little different in that;

              It isn't symmetrical..... by accident(due to not using a template),mine is a little "twisted" and pointing about 5-10* off center. HOWEVER,that turned out to be better because I "aimed" it at the direction the exhaust needs to go. So a mistake turned into a better approach.

                Gonna order another tapered stainless piece from Burns stainless,Costa Mesa Ca. (Think that's where they are). Have 4 or 5,K12 pipes. Gonna make another.

                But look up Burns SS,they're pretty hooked up.

                I need another header because I want to hook a shop vac to the exit. So when dicking with the valve job on the extra head,well hillbilly flow bench comes to mind. I have a bunch of manometer "stuff" from making dust collection chit. So it can serve on this project.

                Also want to look into wide band O2 sensors but will save that,and discussion of where to put it for another thread. Y'all start snagging used,(wrecked) pipes for whatever rides your on. I'll weld you up a collector if you want to lose the cat and go with a different endcan.

                  Wow,the detail gun is totally awesome on grunge. Like a Kadak point N shoot,goodbye anything not welded/bolted in place.

                  So take 15 minutes to lose the nastys and here's the business end....

                      Nice. Didn't realize the cans were going on a K1200RS.

                    When in the midst of painting the bodywork;

                    Knee deep in parts being prepped and sprayed,I looked at what should've for all purpose,be a mess. It wasn't. In fact was downright impressive that it was so well organized?

                    Working on the principle of efficiency rather than some OCD preoccupation of "cleanliness". It is working because the fabrication going into the pipes is just downright enjoyable. Here's a shot showing a pce of 2 1/2" J bend having one straight end formed into the,1 into 2.

                    The J bend could've just been a straight pce of tubing but,having the extra material makes fixturing easier. Notice the small section on the right of the siamesed 1 1/4" tubes. This is what is going on,the part that's being formed. The HYD, H frame press is SO nice.

                    Got this new piece almost done yesterday,will finish today.

                    ???????

                      In the above pic,the steel angle is forming the V valley between where the two smaller tubes bisect in. That's a piece of black pipe(plumbing schedule 40) being used as a slave piece,and hammer/shrinking dolly whilst press keeps the pressure on.

                      This part is sometimes referred to as a pant leg Y in dust collection vernacular. This is a curved pantleg. Just sayin,it isn't symmetrical.... it's shaped to make a bend.
