Cheap RADAR detector rain cover

Been looking for something cheap and easy to use to cover my RADAR detector in the event of rain. I had heard about baby's shower caps but coldn't find one that wasn't in the form of a yellow duck or something like that. Some Amazon surfing brought me to these, stretchable food covers for bowls.



They were a little over $3 at Target, there's one on my way to work every day. Not coincidentally it's on my way home everyday too. The medium ones work for a RADAR detector.

Here's my RADAR detector and bluetooth unit normally



Here it is with the food cover on it. Elastic bottom and my mini bungee that I use to help secure the bluetooth unit keeps it from flying off at speed.



So there you go, cheap and easy, any reference to me is purely coincidental.

I've been using sandwich wraps for decades. Today at the grocery store I saw the bowl covers. Two dollars spent.

I left mine on the bike one night and covered the bike. The next day it went haywire.
I removed it and noticed water so we went to the store and bought a box of Uncle Ben's
rice. Put it in a ziplock bag with rice and worked fine.
I usually remove mine in the rain because cops don't run radar (as much) in the rain and
I slow down anyways.

If it was legal here I would place it in the top clear compartment of my tank bag rain or shine.

It's just a little bluetooth transmitter. I have two just alike. One seems to last about 6-7 hours of riding. First one was about $15. Then once the chinese tariffs hit the second one was about $30. Still waiting for my rebate from China. Have to make sure you get one that DOES NOT auto mute. Works great with my Sena. The sena one was a piece of crap and over $100. I only bluetooth my RADAR detector so don't need a bunch of ports.

I think I'm the only Virginia guy on the thread so far so technically I'm the only one breaking the law. And me having a RADAR detector is like some folks having a police scanner. It doesn't make them criminals. We're all just concerned citizens. I like to know where the police are in case I want to buy them donuts or coffee. Yeah, that's it......

As the trainee was writing Jerry a ticket the training sergeant asked me "what's that" pointing to my radar detector. I said, "do you want the funny answer or the serious answer?" Brusquely he replied, "what do you think?". So I said, "your job is to hide in the bushes and catch speeders, it's job is to prevent that from happening". He said, "it didn't work too well seeing how I am writing a ticket" and I replied, "you didn't catch me". Jerry said, "shut the fuck up Joe!"

Or something like that. Good times.

A similar type of interaction happened with a "friend" in WV on the way to Bill Morgan's house. Rounding a bend in Bumfuck, WV, the friend is met with visual on a School Zone sign, Radar alert, and visual of a LEO, all in a span of 0.3 seconds. My friend guestimates that he was traveling around 80 mph at the time. Date was July, school was out, but would that matter???

Fast Forward... approaching my friends black K1200RS, the LEO spots the radar detector, and opens the conversation with, "well, i guess that didn't help ya, did it?" as he proceeds to spit his chew and one of his last teeth onto the ground. My friend, he was now 36 years old and had learned, difficult as it was, that sometimes less is more, and did not entertain the question. After some conversation, where friend thought that he was making some in-roads, LEO proceeds to his car, and comes back with a prize, for 63 in a 45... all in all, friend thought "not bad".

Before leaving my friend go, the LEO felt compelled to ask, "have you not noticed any of the other officers out there today? The county is having a crackdown (forget his exact term)". Friend, having seen two other officers writing in the 10-15 miles prior had noticed, but figured that was all the cops within a 100 mile range of that location. Regardless, my friend (now with ticket in hand) responded, "well, how many more miles is it out of this shit county then?"

I love me some Bill Morgan. He is an excellent rider and I have no doubt that he is an extraordinary roofer. I would recommend you do not hire him as your attorney however.
