Pistol Pete...well, I guess I should just start with the facts:
I had a call from Pete Thursday and it was startling. As many of you know, Pete is a real even keel guy which isn't bothered by much. On this call I could tell he was upset, emotional and with good reason. Unfortunately, after weeks of feeling poorly and largely bed ridden, he has been diagnosed with prostrate cancer. He had been getting treated and diagnosed in the Bahama's but they said he needed to get further diagnosis in FLA. Now, after seeing seeing specialists in FLA, Pete has progressed from prostrate cancer to bone cancer throughout his body. Since the cancer is not localized, he won't be getting radiation (at least for now) but will start a regimen of chemo therapy as soon as they can determine what "formula" will be best for him. They have talked about some extreme measures to minimize/eliminate the production of testosterone which evidently increases the spread of cancer. So, there is the obvious concern about mortality but the docs have been positive about the treatments and survivability. This is obviously very early in his diagnosis and treatment so hopefully his body will react favorably to the chemo.
Pete's message to all of us...get your PSA checked regularly.
For me, this whole situation is beyond anything I would have ever imagined about Pete. He is a very fit and healthy guy. Hell, he and Linda just finished the APT a couple of years ago and was eager to do the TAT if he could find a partner to do it with. A boater, a pilot, a construction wiz, excellent mechanic, a great motorcyclist and above all, a better friend than you could ever imagine. Even though this is all great, he's had his share of struggles in the past few years: Dealing with Lyme's disease with his daughter that many of you know (squidly kid...Alyssa), significant damage to his Bahama's house from hurricane Dorian (I think) and now this.
There are several of you that know Pete pretty well, especially from I-BMW but he is just not up to recounting his situation to all of us. So, he asked me to share this situation for him.
