    Little Bikes Go BIG

    Little Bikes Go BIG...

As I age, I find trends intriguing sometimes. It seems to me that small displacement motorcycles are going the way of the cell phone. Say what?

Do you remember the time when cell phone advertisements boasted of the incredibly small size of their new flagship phone, the pinnacle being the Motorola Razor I believe? Now days, it seems to be a a push to who has the largest screen, with those of us that do not desire a small tablet for a telephone suffering.

In much the same way, I laugh when I look at the latest crop of little bikes. Years ago Honda came back into the little bike market with the CBR250R to challenge the then 250 Kawasaki. Kawasaki quickly upped its displacement to a 300 and was able boast large power differential over the Honda. Shortly thereafter, enter the Yamaha R3 and the KTM RC390. When KTM entered this market with the RC390, they were the "King" of horsepower at like 50hp.

Well, go figure, along comes the Yamaha R4 and the Honda CBR400R. Pretty soon the "little" bikes will be the 600RR's again.

If loud pipes save lives, imagine what learning to ride that thing could do.
