    Serendipity

Last year about this time I bought luggage for my new to me S1000XR: 39 liter panniers and a 29 liter top box. The top box was to keep Beth from falling off the back when I goosed it. Both are nicely made and lock securely.
Soon after mounting them, I took an early spring ride on the bike. Towards the end of the ride I stopped for gas. I tried to open the top box and found it was locked. Checked my pockets, and I didn't have the keys. I could only figure that I had left the keys in the lock on the top box, and they had vibrated out during the ride. Pissah! I had a spare set, but I called Shad to see if I could get another set. The keys had 4 digit codes, so I hoped I could just order those codes. Shad tells me that they don't just sell the keys. If I want two sets, I'll have to buy all new lock cylinders, install those, and they would come keyed the same. I said maybe later.

Today, nearly a year later, I took my dogs for our regular walk up the driveway to get the Sunday paper. I live about half a mile off the paved road, and my driveway is pretty rough and hilly. I make this walk at least once a day, every day, and sometimes more. Today a flash of red caught my eye on the driveway, and , low and behold, there were my keys!

The red key (for the top box) was a little bent, but I hammered it flat, and it works just fine. The black one is OK as is.

Sometimes it doesn't take much to please me.

I’d rather think someone’s a son of a bitch than to have him think I’m a son of a bitch.

Sometimes it's the little things. Glad you found them!

We always suspect Trafalmadorians. They eventually bring stuff back but in Robs case it was a dang long time for them to study a set of keys.

So Tim, did the Trafalmadorians take your Ray Bans?

Those pesky Tralfamadorians! Though I'd trade these keys for a night with Montana Wildhack.

On my morning walks I find all kind of things, tools mostly. You think I'd find a 10mm socket.... NOPE !

Great story, Rob! Congratulation for one of life's small, but most pleasant, victories.
