    Well, hi!

February 2023 has been, lets say, interesting. We did a tour of FAME and Muscle Shoals recording studios Feb 2nd and we are pretty sure that's when we got covid. It was relatively mild and a week later we are feeing better, then I go in for a stress test to see why I've been getting short of breath on our neighborhood walks. I'd mentioned this at my yearly physical in January and even though the EKG in the doctor's office was perfect he wanted the stress test, set for Feb 22th. I failed. BP high 180s, nitro pill, and I'm admitted for transfer to a hospital that can fix matters of the heart. The afternoon of Monday Feb 27nd I had open heart surgery. I never had a heart attack but that's only because I knew something wasn't right and got it checked. I'm still weak from the surgery, but recovering. They say I'm doing very well.

Hate to miss seeing so many friends in Texas but we will see y'all all at BRPR, in the car. Arkansas will be back on the bike. Take care, and if you feel funny, get it checked!

Been following your adventures with concern and interest. What do you like better - heart surgery or motorcycle wrecks?

Tyson, on August 21st, 2010 I had the misfortune to go through a fence at 70 mph. I was in and out of consciousness on the ride / flight to a waiting ICU trauma team. Four and a half days later I woke up. My legs were so swollen I couldn't walk. My toes wouldn't touch the floor. The boys looked like a medium sized grapefruit with a pickle shoved into it. It took a week to learn to eat ....... ice. It took eighteen months before I could remove a tee shirt by folding my arms over my head.

The recoveries are not comparable at all, but when I awoke from surgery last Monday afternoon / evening I felt like I had hit a wall at 200 mph.

Tim, I well remember your off-road adventure in 2010. It was that to which I referred. I figured this would be a piece of cake compared to that. You seem to compare this latest adventure to a "controlled" crash. We're so glad this morning that you are within the proper "on the mend parameters."

Great to see you back here Tim, you're in good hands !
I recently had to change primary care doctors and went for
what I thought was a "physical". Turns out it's called a
"wellness check". They took my pulse, BP, listened to my
heart and breathing. The weighed me too....
All the rest of the time he was asking questions about my
past ailments and typing on the computer. Never took any
      blood either.
I told my friend that I think they're forcing us to look after
      ourselves.
The insurance companies and profits seem to be guiding
their ability to care for us. An ounce of prevention doesn't
      make them money.

Routine lab/blood tests can be ordered Once A Year and are at least partially covered by most insurance companies. Not covered under "Wellness Exam".

I had two previous doctors that were really thorough...
I mentioned to one during a physical, doesn't this get boring, doing the same
        thing all the time?
He replied, " I have to be thorough, if I miss something it could kill a patient."
There doesn't seem to be any pride in work anymore.... I see it everyday in my
work. People just seem to accept it and go on.
I guess I'll have to turn to DR Google for professional help.

These days doctors and hospitals are reimbursed by the insurance companies and the government based on the specific diagnosis. It behooves hospitals to get you out the door as quickly as possible. So the hospitals are also keeping an eye on the doctors' cost per diagnosis. Private physicians are reimbursed with the same system.

Good to hear you were on time to avoid further damage. I had my open heart surgery on sept 3, last year, so it is a little over half a year now. I was told it would take about half a year to feel really good adain, and I can confirm that was, for me at least, the reality. you will need the time to get to 100% again, and that does not happen very quick. Wish you and Susan all the best.

Glad to hear back from you, Tim. I am sure all that fine food you and Susan post from your rides had nothing to do with it.
Rehab is now the name of the game. Get well soon, we got plenty to do.

Family medical history places a part in it too. And while we did partake of the fine food, we aren't the only guilty party. There will be future food pix, only not as lethal.

Tim, I was unaware of this latest chapter until yesterday, when I met John Woodyear and Cousin Martin in Charlotte yesterday. 200 mph, eh? That sounds pretty miserable. Here's wishing you a complete and speedy recovery. See you at the Wattstull!

We will be at Wattstull Fri - Sat nights, probably in the car (vs Jeep). Just finished planning, routing, reserving a 6400 mile trip for AHR 20203 on the bike!

Discharged from the surgical doc today. Complete recovery date is May 20th, 2023. We stopped by a local Mexican restaurant on the way home. Grilled Chicken Fajitas with veggies on Corn wraps. No more dripping ground beef, but an occasional Oark visit is allowed. Ozark would be, as JJ says, just wrong.
