Just going thru some old moto mags this evening and found an article by Larry Grodsky in a "Rider" magazine. He used to write a column titled Stayin' Safe. The mag was from 2005 and he passed in 2006 after hitting a deer at night in Texas. I think one of the members of this site knew him as a friend and used to ride with him. Not sure. The column in this issue was about using communication devices while riding and reduced attention to the road as a result.

BTW, these old mags were 100 plus pages long.

I remember him well. So sad, and incredibly ironic, that he would be travelling so fast at dusk in an area that is totally infested with deer.

One online comment at the time of Grodsky's crash stated that the area was so thick with deer that there was a roadkill deer carcass every one mile.

Reminds me of the 2002 BRPR when I was riding from Brian's house back up to Peaks of Otter....
So many deer.
And then the time that MattB did the Iron Butt on the Parkway.... He obviously survived !

I read his safety columns regularly. I remember vividly when I heard of his fatal accident. Someone said that he had said shortly before he died, that the one thing that he feared most was hitting a deer. Other than not riding at all, deer are almost totally out of the rider's control.

Most deer strikes around here occur during the daytime. Usually with a steep bank next to the road that the deer leap down or up from. And often hidden until on the road.
