    Tires 101

Time for a tire thread. We're down to 3 to 4/32nd's on the Anakee III's in only 3200 miles. With Lebanon being a 900+ mile trip I don't like the odds of getting another 1000 miles out of them. I have a brand and style in mind but thought the site needed a good ole tire thread.

Think I might need to ditch the 90/10s and go a little more grippy off road.

Bill may have sold me on the Stinkos for my GS. He rode the snot out of them with me chasing him last weekend. I'm trying to find anyone that has experience with the new Michelin Adventures that look a lot like the 705s but are a multi-compound tire. The downside - just the rear Michelin costs as much as a set of the Stinkos.

Shinkos 705s perform very well on and off road

Then why do you call them Stinkos?

Tim, was at the dealer's on my way home today and took a good close up look at the Anakee adventure. They look good. I have not tried them on the road. Maybe you should stop by a dealer and take one for a test ride.

Anybody try the 805, the big block tire. Looks more similar to the TKCknobbie?

Dunlop GPA-Pro NTEC... I've never tried them off road, but I don't think that I can recommend it.

So far, I've enjoyed the Shinko 705's I put on the GS. During my 1200 mile weekend, they performed well on hard pack, gravel/hard pack & were a little squirrelly in sand (but that was probably more me). I have read the 705's do not perform well in mud or wet/slick hard pack but the 805's are more adept in those conditions.

I'm shoeing the SDR this week with Q3+ tires. I really liked the Q3s and everything I've read says they're better in every way. We'll see. Don't think I'll take those off-road either.

Unscientific opinion: if doing much big bike off road, it still looks like the tkc80 is hard, maybe even impossible to beat???

Wes, like you, I was very keen on the Q3's. Again, like you, everybody that I talk to raves about the Q3+. I've never actually used them because I seem to either run DOT Race for the track, or sport-touring (Pilot Road, Angel GT, Road Smarts) for the street.
