I almost won a riding award today. Instead, I just got a verbal "honorable mention." I was wrongly accused of passing on a double yellow. I was more reasonably accused of getting around the 'moving obstacles' at a very rapid pace.
I was very professional as I signaled to the officer and found a nice safe place to discuss the award. I was warned to stay on the bike as I searched for my license and insurance. Once I pulled off my helmet and this mop of grey hair flopped out, I think the young officer downgraded his awards speech. After checking my info in his car, he handed back my license and we politely discussed the technicalities. I earnestly listened to his suggestions. He then left me beside the road to resume my travels without giving me a riding award.
(I was on my way to the Empire Pub in Tulsa to have some pints with a bunch of Brits while we watched England's Three Lions play Slovakia in the 2024 Euros. The three Lions played poorly for much of the game, but saved their tournament in injury time and then overtime.)
