BMW Motorrad Demo Tour Made a Visit To Iowa

    https://www.bmwmotorcycles.com/en/ex...ce/events.html

The truck made a stop at Bondurant Iowa yesterday and today. This is the first time I've done one of these group test rides. Never did it when they were at the Nationals.
We drove up to Bondurant yesterday, about 1.5 hours NE and test rode two bikes that might work for us two up. R1300GS and R1250RT.

Debbie was not able to get on the one in the shop in her riding gear but was able to get on the Demo bike outside. Maybe the one in the shop had the higher suspension and didn't have the auto lowering option. She got a hip cramp after getting on the GS and did not go on that ride.
At first she thought it had a lot of leg room but then realized her feet where on the rider pegs

She rode with me on the RT. Both of us felt like we had plenty of room on the RT to move around and move our feet. She said it was much easier to get on the RT compared to the GS. The little we both sat on the GS she felt she did not have much room.
I did not like the RT shied in my line of vision. Too many years of very short shields. I don't know if the RT had the short or regular shield on it. The seat felt too low but found it was in the low position after the ride. I was surprised I did not mind the higher bars.
The bars on the GS felt weird. I don't know if they are higher and wider than the RT.
The 1300GS really liked to rev. The GS only had 140 miles on it and the shift light was set around 5,000RPM. Seems like half the ride I could see the white light flashing in the edge of my vision.
When riding the GS I was next behind the ride leader and he told me stay close to him. He rode harder than he did on RT ride. One time when I backed off I saw 95 as I slowed.
If we decide to go the two up route I think the RT would be the better choice in the long run.

It was mid 90s and high humidity so I only rode the two bikes that might work for us.

After riding the GS I noticed you can check the oil on the side stand like the K1300S.

The RT looks really sharp but I really like this look.

Two-up sounds fine. Once Deb's hand gets better, you'll find riding pillion behind her is relaxing - except when she's hauling ass through the twisties. Then,Lee, just hold on and close your eyes. Cathy and Susan never even flinch, you'll soon get the hang of it.

I do believe I have had the pleasure of taking a pillion from another rider one time in Arkansas...

Joe, I'm sure it was a pleasure, but that pillion was my girlfriend at the time!
