    Friends and Hurricane Helene

Thought I'd start a thread regarding friends here who might be affected by the storm. Susan and Tim wanted everyone to know they are OK, but communications are almost non-existent. Please post here any other relevant updates about others who live in the Southeast here, please.

I posted in the SB that I traded vm's with Pirate and he and Amber are fine.

No real problem where I am (Tallulah Falls GA area) except for short loss of power, many beautiful trees down and misc flooding but as compared to our friends in NC an TN....ours was nothing.

      Thanks
I usually open the site with New Posts and forget we have the Shoutbox option.

My daughter works for a company that manages golf courses. One is Maggie Valley,
where she put me up in a condo a couple of years ago. It's just down the road from
Dale's Wheels Through Time Museum. Not sure how they did....
This is a picture of the road leading to the condos.

What a mess this thing made for everyone. That's not even considering the tragic loss of life that it caused.
I'm sure a golf course can recover given some time and sunshine. But, some of the other stuff that's wrecked will take years. What do you do with all the brush and tree waste that is absolutely covering everything? We had a similar issue in our Oklahoma area 18 months ago. We had an EPA approved and City run bonfire that burned for days. It is a small fraction of what N.C. is looking at..

There is a creek/river right behind Wheels thru Time in Maggie Valley. I can't imagine the loss if that water got into their museum. Many priceless displays.

EricM and I went and helped Dee a little bit after Irene. It was hot, muggy and stunk.

I guess we expect storms in Florida, but not in the mountains of NC.

You know... Vermont got hit twice in the past two consecutive years and
never got the media attention that this has. Probably politics....
We raised money by selling special license plates and helping each other.
Towns are still trying to recover from washed out roads and flooded streets.
All this after Irene struck the area in 2011 and Sandy in 2012. We were just
                getting roads and bridges rebuilt.
This seems to be the new norm.
Hey, sorry for your loss, but you didn't die. Help your neighbors and send
                money.
