    The one that got away

Over time I have shopped for bikes that I knew that I wanted. Then there were the times that I have been just skimming through looking at bikes, just for the fun of it and saw something that caught my eye but passed because of whatever reason was in front of me. And then there are those bikes that I wish I had purchased, had the money but for whatever reason, didn't pull the trigger. This is one of those bikes.

If I see one again, and the money is right, I will pick it up. This particular bike was in fantastic shape and sounded fantastic.

How about you, ever walk away and wish you hadn't?

Put a deposit on one at the local dealer in WI as wanting to upgrade from a Kawasaki 550LTD. Not knowing what the plan was after high school, and a possible move to FL, decided to get my $$ back.

Fast forward 35 years and found a low mileage pretty clean specimen about 1.5 hrs north of INDY. This one followed me home.

Have the side covers but took off to strap her down.

Whoa! The Breva 1200 Sport is a really cool bike. I had my eye on a black one in the exact configuration as the one pictured but without the Italian colors. Very sharp & it had a bunch of tasteful aftermarket add-ons. But the one I really regret missing out on was a Ducati Super Sport 1000SS a few years ago & it was a Texas bike too. I hesitated & she got away. Like this one but all red.

I passed on the blue and white Suzuki that Trevor picked up...pristine condition about 15 years ago and the guy only wanted $1500. A couple three years ago, I passed up on a pristine Paul SMart Ducati for $13000

                Love both of them still.

The Ducati has since doubled in value, while the Suzuki goes over $7-8 grand, IF you can find one for sale. What a moron I am.

Haven't passed one up but I've tried to get a Ducati "Paul Smart" a couple of times with no luck. Maybe one day if one shows up again...

In a way I wish I still had that black K1300S. It was simply a gorgeous bike although I was completely uncomfortable riding it after a few hours.

I've been wracking my brain as to this one. Like Karl, I've been fortunate to buy or get gifted my lusted-after bikes. Though thinking back now I remember drooling over a 750 Benelli in a bike shop in Murray Street in the mid-70s. Was something about those 6 pipes which made it unique and like nothing else around. Then in 1979 my guy bought the first of many Honda CBXs as a wedding present, Turning the Benelli into a distant memory. Probably just as well - the Honda is by far the superior 6 ?
