Memorial Day is a time to honor and remember those who gave their lives while serving in the U.S. military. It’s more than a long weekend; it’s a solemn moment to reflect on the sacrifices made through service.

Susan,thanks for the picture. I have had numerous family and friends serve in the military. I am glad this day does not honor them - they either passed away naturally, or else are still with us. We remember and honor them thankfully on November 11th.

Who remembers when Memorial Day was May 30th?

Today we visited the Freedom Rock to see the new paintings. This is the 28th year a local artist, Bubba Sorensen, has painted the rock with new scenes.
This sits at the entrance of a old rock quarry north of Greenfield Iowa just south of I-80.
For many years it would get covered with graffiti. Since Bubba has painted it, no one has messed with it.












Bubba has worked his was around Iowa and painted a Freedom Rock in the other 98 counties.
The other rocks are only painted once.

We like going each year to see the new murals.

The rock is north of Greenfield Iowa. We made a loop through town and it's looking good now.
2024 a EF4 tornado hit, killing 5, injured 35 and destroyed 150 homes. Also several wind turbines.
One problem Bubba mentioned was Greenfield lost a lot of population because of the tornado. A lot of renter lost homes and it takes a long time to replace housing, so they just moved to a different town.
