    New Hats Are Expensive!

In anticipation of another great AHR, Cathy thought she needed a new hat. Her old Shoei looked great and was well taken care of, but the padding was finally disintegrating. We bought a plain white RF-1400 with no graphics - right at $720.00 after tax, etc. Nice helmet, but I paid only $68.00 for a Premier full-face in 1972, that was replacing my $99.00 Bell Star! A Nice bowling ball colored Fulmer with a bubble shield was about the same!

    Times change, I guess.

At the MOA Rally this year I replaced my Shuberth C3 with a Klim carbon fiber one with visor, Pinlock and transition shield.
it cost over $800 on sale. Added a Cardo Talkback Pro that they installed for me too.
I couldn’t be more pleased with it. I rode four days home in high eighty degree weather, reaching into the nineties a few times. One time on I-81 I was stopped in construction traffic. Transition Shield down sipping from my hydration straw, I was surprised how comfortable I was. I could imagine people in their air conditioned cages looking at me thinking he must be cooking in all that gear.
I’d updated my 20 year old LD Comfort shirt and the hydration pack was filled with ice and topped off with water. But, I wear a Klim air vest so that was probably preventing any cold from getting to me.
I’ll add that the new Pinlock shield is wider and clearer than the old ones. I used to ride with a dark shield in and keep the Pinlock on a clear shield in the tank bag. Not with this one, it’s in all the time.
if you ride long distances give this one a look.

Mike. I've been riding with a Schuberth C3 Lite for the past few years. Quietest helmet I've ever had. I wasn't expecting that from a modular helmet. It's half a size to tight, which is bothersome after about the 3rd hour or so, Other than that, it's been great. A modular flip-up is handy for talking to Cathy at stops and slow spots in the ride. She eschews electronic communicators - you wouldn't expect her to be a purist. She just asks, "If we had communicators, what would I even talk to you about?"

Yelling, hand gestures (yes, I know) and pointing have pretty much worked for us for many riding years. At this point in our lives, this method will continue.

Elizabeth and I enjoy having coms, sometimes it's nice if I need to ask her if she needs a break, or if one of us sees something noteworthy. Sometimes I forget that someone else can hear all the crazy shit I normally say just in my own helmet but so far nothing that's required an attorney.

Capn, you make me laugh. Things I think but refrain from saying, sometimes just crack me up.

My first communicators were Cardos, bought before Beth and I got married. Mine worked fine for a full 8 hours, but the batteries on Beth's died after about an hour. I told her that was a safety feature.
I’d rather think someone’s a son of a bitch than to have him think I’m a son of a bitch.

after all these years I decided this year to put the sena system in my Schubert c5 so I could communicate with Charlie and Victory at sgr this year . we managed to connect the three helmets and probably didn't ride more than 10~15 miles before turning them off . there was way too much background noise . not sure if others have had to deal with this or not . big waste of 500.00 i think I've ever spent on motorcycle gear .

Wind noise? I've found that it's the placement of the mic and/or the helmet. Eric's and my gf's have a lot of noise, especially if the shield is open, but they say mine is quiet. We and to only turn them on when we want to say something.

Are you saying the sena was not clear enough to hear over the wind noise or the Sena was picking up background noise and making it worse.
