Skyline Drive open

In case any one avoids this road because of the fee - With the federal government shutdown there's no fee for using Skyline Drive. Oddly, there's a person working in the gate house at both ends of it that tells you there's no charge today and waves you through. Makes no fcuking sense that the park person would be there and, if there, they wouldn't go ahead and collect a fee but that's our feds for ya.

Mid-week, no traffic at all and best of all, no park ranger enforcement (that we saw anyway). Skyline race course is open for business.

If you have a NP Geezer Pass did you get through free?

yes, and I wouldn't count on not seeing a ranger somewhere although if they're not getting paid their give a shit level may be down.

I have the geezer pass but the nice ladies working at both ends (we went north and south on it over 3 days) just passed us through saying it's free during the shutdown. We didn't see any sign of park vehicle activity of any kind.

In WV the leaves are getting colorful so I'd avoid riding on the weekends like they plague. Up on the BRP and Skyline the leaves were just starting to turn.
