My dealer is booked for appointments 3 weeks out, a week ago the ignition switch failed on my XR (always on). Took it in on Tuesday last week and left it, they finished it that Saturday afternoon. So while the appointments are booked out they will work things in in between jobs. Or at least my dealer does.

I haven't experienced that with mine, but it's a small shop and I haven't had a
major problem since 2009.
Like every other trade they are probably shorthanded and having trouble finding
qualified techs. In my area it's a seasonal business and they fill the other time by
also selling ATVs and snowmobiles. BMWNA doesn't like that they have to share
the showroom with other vehicles, but so far my dealer has been able to hold onto
the franchise.

Mike, similar to what you say, my local BMW dealer also sells Honda. Years ago, probably 15 years ago now, BMW caused them to redo their showroom because Honda's and BMW's couldn't been seen together

Thankfully, for Matt the consumer, they must be making enough money on BMW's that they went ahead and modified their showroom to appease BMW. It would have ultimately hurt the consumer (losing a dealer), but in some ways I really wish that they would have told BMW (FYYFF's) as I find the whole attitude a bit ridiculous.

RS530 like you, I don't schedule much work at the dealer, yet I have have a few times. In my cases it was typically anywhere from a week to three weeks out. Look at the bright side, this is a perfect excuse to own another bike or three because it's totally unreasonable to go that long without having one to ride. Just sayin'

It's not unusual for the Kansas City shop to be booked for 2 weeks.
Most years I don't need to go to the shop for service.
If I need something that can wait I make a appointment late in the riding season when they're not busy.

Our dealer, EuroSport in Asheville NC, is booked 2 to 3 weeks out. They will try to work in travelers or urgent issues.

Honestly, I had no idea BMW bike shops are that booked, fortunately this time its not hindering me from riding, I wonder with Harley having so many dealers if they are getting there customers in and out right away? A second bike would be nice, would probably be more touring specific and less sport touring.

Years ago I did just that and got a second bike, but it was more dirt road friendly.

My own question was answered about Harley, my buddies V-Rod shift indicator started acting up on the way home from Glacier, basically stopped working altogether only showed neutral, anyway he called Harley to have it looked at on Saturday, told him to drop it off on Sunday will be ready by Wednesday. Now thats service. I hate to say it, but if I ever have an issue where my bike is laid up for a third of the summer because BMW cant get it in to service it, I may really consider going to the dark side, or at least have a dark side back up.

Buy a chinese sensor and fit it yourself, or replace the battery in the one you have. why pay hundreds of dollars for what is a simple job done in one hour and a $2 battery ?
If i remember correct the sensor alone is $180. Then the cost for tking the wheel off the bike, off with the tire and reinstall.

Buy gas and beer for that money instead.

No current info but TR was a sales guy for Iron Horse In Tucson some time ago and still keeps in touch. If Tucson is closer that may be an option for ya.

It's a little farther, Doug... about 15 miles, so no big deal. I'll give them a shot next time I need any dealer service. GoAZ Motorcycles in Scottsdale treated me well the one time I visited. GoAZ is a huge, multi-brand dealership, so Iron Horse is appealing since they are exclusively BMW...
