Howdy! Nice to virtually meet you all!

I'm a hard-core sport rider; road-raced for 10 years in Battle of the Twins, F1, F2, Prod, Mod-Prod and Endurance racing - all in Amateur class, needless to say. After 29 wonderful years with an 1991 R100GS (and over 270 K...), during which time I also briefly owned a 1999 R1100S, I bought a 2020 R1250R in the Spring of 2020. My '91 GS was 'street-fighter-ized' and used as a full-on sport-bike. In the past, I've raced everything from 4-stroke Twins (BMW R65LS) to 2-stroke Fours (RG500 & RZ500) - I've also ridden everything from the CBX1000 Six to the mighty GSXR1000, not to mention V-Maxes, etc. etc.

    Happy to be here!

Here are a couple of shots of The Beast with a custom R65LS fairing added to it:

Welcome to the site. When did you race the in the Battle of the Twins?

That was 1984 or 1985, at Loudon in Laconia, New Hampshire. My favourite track! Got a first place in my class (second overall) in one race! The series was sanctioned by AAMRR (Association of American Motorcycle Road Racers). They also had all the other classes listed above. That was the only American track I raced at, but I also raced at a couple of Canadian ones (Mosport & Sanair).

Here's a picture of my R65LS back in the day.

              Victory Thanks!

              955i Not a chance!

And, what the heck - here's a shot of my streetfighter R100GS, with the LS when it wasn't kitted out for racing. As you'll see, adding an R65LS fairing seems to be a 'thing' with me... In this particular case, since the '91 GS came with a non-removable luggage rack that was part of the frame, I chose to cover it up by adapting an LS tail-section, as well.

Somehow, that "little" R65 has grown on me over time. I wasn't a fan at the time, but the years have either been kind to the little odd beast, or I have grown tolerant over the years . . . nah.

955i - I loved it from the start and had a total of 3 over the years - at one point (before the GS), 2 at the same time: one for the street and one for the track. Traded them both in for the GS, then missed having one and got a third, which I only got rid of last Fall when I ordered the R1250R. Amazing little bikes to ride; felt like a 350 in the corners! And, I once followed a SAAB 900 Turbo on my way to Laconia (my brother was racing that weekend and I wasn't, but was giving him a hand in the paddock...) for an hour at a speed I can't write here, because it would incriminate me. Suffice it to say I don't think many 650's - especially back then! - would have been able to maintain that speed for that long. And, when I finally had to stop for gas, the engine wasn't even overly hot; I could keep my gloved hand on it for a full minute or more with no burning. I still find it one of the prettiest bikes ever!

                  Pete_Tallahassee - Many thanks, Pete!

cabnfvr - Thanks! The name doesn't ring a bell, but I'm terrible with names! (And the memory's no longer what it once was, either - not that it was ever great!)
