Many years ago, my 12-year old brother and my old-enough-to-know-better Dad, rolled a used up semi-truck tire down and across a canyon in the Chino Hills, near Corona, California. They were half a mile away from the busy highway which was basically out of sight. That tire rolled across the canyon, slowed to a near stop, and came back at them. It veered down the canyon and bounced its way toward the highway, gathering momentum as it went.
Dad and my brother both were terribly relieved when the tire bounded over the highway without hitting any cars. The tire ended its adventure on its side in the mud of the backwaters of Prado Reservoir.
