                  Laughing Cannibals

                  Kuru, also known as the "laughing disease", is a neurodegenerative disorder that causes people to experience uncontrollable laughter and other emotional symptoms. The disease was first described in the Fore people of Papua New Guinea in the early 1900s. It's caused by abnormal proteins called prions that multiply in the brain and form clumps that disrupt brain processes. It is contracted by eating the brains of the deceased. A ritualistic practice in this cannibalistic culture.

                  Kuru has no known cure.

                    True fact: Asked somewhat recently (mid-60's qualifies) about whether they were still cannibalistic, these folks adamantly replied "No." Unfortunately, after this various people continued to become infected. Their answer then sheepishly, was "Well, sometimes.we might still do it."
