BRPR 2020 pictures

BRPR 2020 is in the books and despite COVID 19 and a shitty weather forecast it turned out really good. By my count we had 12 riders which was good all things considered. And it was a good twelve.Twelve
non - assholes. I left Thursday and put the bike in the truck on the way out. I just got a truck and a set of ramps last year and it's a good option to have and the worst of the rain was forecast for Thursday. was great seeing folks after such a long time, some I hadn't seen in a few years. So if you've not been to a BRPR in the last few years we have it at the Wattstull Inn just on the outskirts of bustling Buchanan, VA. It's a great venue for us, no one bothers us and the owners come and party with us. It seems like they really enjoy having us. No, no shit! I'm not making that up. Here's the view from the porch at the Wattstull.




KiwiMat wants to do BRPR one year so I reserved him a spot just in case.




Friday morning three of us decided to do the Marlinton run, a perennial favorite. It was me, Keith (Allikanbe) and Don. Dale also rode with us a bit but had to get back early as he and Bill Morgan Jr. were grilling for everyone that night. It had been a while since I had ridden with Keith, he was the first person I met from I-BMW and took me to my first rally, DGR back when it was at Fontana. Keith had been out of riding for a while and had a spiffy new bike. Don helped me represent the K1300s.

Here we are stopped at falling Spring waterfall. In my opinion one of the two best in Virginia. One is a two mile hike. This one is right on the side of the road. Easy choice. So 3 K bikes and Keith's new GS.


A lot of rain recently so lots of flow at the falls.



Usually Bill Morgan, Jr. leads me down some dark path I have no business being on in a K1300 but he had shit to do so he must have sent George. George is George from King George, a good and adventurous rider and a good dude.

Here's a picture from the dark path. No worries about traffic and luckily it dumped us out in the 'hood in Clifton Forge. I'll grudgingly admit it was a pretty spot right next to a stream. Excellent crop of poison ivy lining the road as well.

Got back to the Wattstull where Bill and Dale were cooking and it was smelling good! Pork ribs, hamburgers, Brats and two kinds of potato salad. It was a feast.



After we ate we had a light rain shower and then we got this over the Wattstull. The heavens saw our rally and said it was good.



Later on that night after some libations Bill Morgan Jr. got kidnapped in a van. Cost us two Natty Lights to get him back, but that's his story to tell.

So that was Friday.

Wish I could've made time to join you guys again Wes... looks like a good time too & sometimes less is more. You gotta hand it to Bill Morgan... he goes at everything 110% and he's quite the Grill Master. Of course, it helps to have a trusty sidekick! With Dale on board, they're The Dynamic Duo!

One thing I forgot about Friday was that I finally got a chance to meet Brian Smith. Had heard a lot about him from some of the guys from I-BMW and it was a pleasure. He's in the picture from the cookout.
So Saturday I had planned on riding some sweeper roads over the mountain in Bedford I found when I worked there a while back plus some roads I just saw on the map. Dale rode with me, we found some good roads and the weather was absolutely perfect. Sunny skies, nice temps and low humidity. Plus not a lot of folks on the roads.

Here's one from below the Smith Mountain Lake dam. Water was muddy on that side. Beautiful on the lake side.



After a nice lunch down by the lake we headed for the Parkway. It was just too nice a day not to. On the way up the mountain we stopped at Mountain Valley Produce. They have some awesome salsa, I bought a mango habanero that is amazing. A bunch of Parkway pictures and my RADAR detector paid for itself later that day on the Parkway:

On the way back wanted to get a picture of the pedestrian swing bridge in Buchanan. It crosses the James which is the same river my ferry goes across albeit 200 miles or so upstream.



Always reminded me of the bridge of death on Monty Python and the Holy Grail. So that's what I've got, if you've got pictures tack them on or start your own thread if you've got a bunch. Was great seeing everyone and I really needed this getaway so thanks to all who came and made it a great rally. Special thanks to Bill Morgan, Jr. and Dale who drug a grill and food all the way from Indiana to feed us all one night. It was amazing. See y'all next time wherever that might be.

One thing that got me interested in coming to rallies and motorcycle travel in general was some of the great ride reports folks like you, Lee, Curt and others put up about their travels. That has led to some absolutely fabulous trips and friendships. Why I even had a guy help me buy a comic book in French in a small town in Quebec once! Maybe I'll spark some interest in someone else and it adds content to the site.
