Lee, it was a cumulative kinda thing. 1/2 inch of ice, then about 1/2 inch of sleet. Do that a few times and the temp goes below 10 and well, the whole thing becomes a slab of ice. The trees and power lines were 1/2 to 3/4 inch of ice. Then a couple days later and we had 5 inch snowfall. Makes for a fun time behind the wheel.
Doug, it's a regional thang. Different ways at the county line....then ya throw in all them ferinners....low miles, well maintained

Here is a short list of 10 restaurants... "for your dining pleasure" if ya want to try some of 'em while doing the KHCR. They are scattered around different towns in all directions to cover various riders tastes.
1. Pops Barbecue, Hwy 801 at Cave Run Lake
2. Melinis Cucina, Main Street Morehead
3. Boone Tavern, Main Street Berea
4. Silver Creek Restaurant, Silver Lake Drive Mt. Sterling
5. Marcellas Farm to Fork, Hwy 150 Mt. Vernon
6. Madison Garden ,North Madison Ave. Richmond Ky
7. Gillums, Eastern Bypass Richmond
8. Stockyards Restaurant, Helena Rd Flemingsburg
9. Smokin Butts, Hwy 1107 Paintsville
10. Elk Mountain Cafe, Hwy 421 Hyden
I have dined at all but 2 of these establishments, (Marcellas and Smokin Butts) and have enjoyed them. I have been told by folks the other 2 are also good. These are but options for your approbation.
We here in ol' Kaintuk have a hard time finding continuous businesses in the eatery industry. Small towns have a lot of them to open but maintaining the open door is a difficult undertaking. The best riding is of course thru the smallest of villages, so we find connectors to larger communities to sustain our dietary requirements. The above list provides those connectors around some very good riding. Looking forward to spending time with a whole mess of you folks...

My favorite place in Kentucky is in Owensville - the Moonlight BBQ. It used to be a regular fuel stop for me on flights back and forth across the country. They'd have a courtesy car available at the airport and after the all you can eat buffet the autopilot got to do the flying in the afternoon
