The 17th was the date to head to Norway for my Big Great Norway Tour. My wife Nancy wanted visit Norway when she did a grammar school report. We booked a tour with Adriatic moto tours. We had done two tours with them before. Got our non stop flight SAS in business class (never done that before. Nancy wanted some new gear for the trip. Boots and pants. We needed checked baggage for our gear got that too (Revzilla, went to the Philly Store) We had a nice lunch after getting all the gear.
Something did not feel right with me on this tour, but I always get worried before a big trip. Hey get to see my friends at the BRPR and I did. Meeting friend again, Having Wes and Elizabeth as my tour guides, Billy and Amy making a great meal for us, And Joe with his stupid jokes (the Hine Lick maneuver) It was a good time.
Before I left for BRPR Nancy wasn't fellig that good, like a stomach bug. But she said go, and I did. Got home and she felt better. Went out for Birthday on May 11. Dinner and a show. It was fun. But when she got home she threw up.
So we went to see the GP doc since she was do anyway. The doctor did not feel anything thinking it might be a diet issue. But the problem was still three. Now a ctscan was ordered. She had a blockage in her small intestine. They thought diet would help. And it did for awhile. Back to the ER and another CT scan. Same result. Went to a GI doc he ordered a MRI upper and lower with that bad stuff you have to drink. The screwed up the order and said we had to come back. Nancy said no. Four to five hours latter we got it done.
Now the the GI doc. It's a blockage that needs surgery. Nancy asked if it was cancer. No cancer showed up in the CT or MRI. We should see this great surgeon in Philly. So we got an appointment in a couple of days. Nancy was getting weaker but she would soon be fixed. We saw the surgeon and he knew what it could be and fix it. Got her a hospital room for the weekend she will have surgery on Monday.
It's about a month from Norway. We might make it. She had the surgery and the doctor repaired the the blockage. He called me into a small office to tell me how it went. The blockage was a tumor. When he open Nancy abdomen it was full of cancer. I cried. He said he checked her other organs and other intestines. They did not have any tumors. He asked about her ovaries, they had been removed about twenty years ago.
Now wait for an oncology report.. Nancy is recovering from the surgery. Water, soft foods and then some larger food. All she has to do is fart or shit to be released. All most there, we will do Norway and come home to cancer treatment. Not to happen. She begin to leak from from her surgery wound. Smelly. They want to pu a drain in. Pus good It's an infection, shit bad, surgery did not take. It was shit.
Back for more surgery. Turns out when the drain was placed it pierced her intestine. They used that hole for he oscopy hole and now she has an oscopy bag , a G-tube going into her stomach and a pick line going into her veins.
I get training on how to drain and change the .bag and do IV infusions. They send her home. No Norway trip now. Cancelled the trip. Lost 50% due to being so late to cancel, part of the contract. Got our airfare back.
She home downstairs on a hospital bed. She can look out the window and see the Delaware River and River Road as the Harleys ride by.
Nancy has good days and bad days. We have nurses from the hospital come over and change her would dressing. I argue with them on the best way to change her bag. Her wound is healing. Then I found her in the bathroom. fast shallow breaths, sweating and disoriented. I got her back in bed. Took her temp 101. Called the nurse. she thought she might be dehydrated and should go to the ER. I got her IV going and she felt better. No ER tonight.
At 4am she called me. (I sleep on an air mattress close to her) She said she had pissed herself. It smelled bad and was not piss but pus come out of the wound at a heavy rate. I did not know what to do. So I called the rescue squad. They took her to a local hospital that added som IV fluids and cleaned her up. She had to go back to philly. 24 hours latter she did. Infection, abscess or fistula. They chose to treat it by place a drain in and flushing it. Seems to work but now she has another bag. Was supposed to come home today. Drove to Philly through that shitty traffic. Stayed there most of the day. Not today tomorrow. I get a call from Nancy to come back as I am sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on 676. I cannot turn around, they will keep her for another day.
So I am going down again tomorrow to bring her home. My dining room table is full of medical supplies. My fridge has infusion IVs in it. Our dog doesn't know what's going on. I have not been back to my part time fairway mowing job close to two months. But they said I am welcome back.
Our trip is over and never to take another one with my wife. again. She is going to go on the next journey alone with out me. I have knew her for over forty years since I was 18.. We have been married for 36 years. We have traveled the world together. We have motorcycled and boated together. She has made our house our home. And now she has to die a terrible death in front of me. I am so sad.
Things can happen so fast in life and death. So live your life to the fullest with your love ones and friends. Sorry to bring anyone down who reads this but I had to get it out.
