We're a little more than a month away from landing in Inverness Scotland for 9 days of riding in the Highlands. Being late in the season we were warned that accommodations in small locales might be challenging to find, especially for a larger group - there are five of us on the trip. We've decide to rent a VRBO just west outside of Inverness as our base for what will likely be a combination of day trips with a multi-day trip perhaps out on the Isle of Skye.
Personally, I love to camp even in cooler weather but right now the opinions vary in our group about bringing camping gear. I like to have the option even if we're flexible and looking for inside overnights. I've been known to pop my tent down in some unique places like behind a church & graveyard or some secluded spot just off the side of the road in the middle of the night.
I'd love to hear any advice from the collective wisdom here that would make for a better trip. Any don't miss roads/routes? Place to camp in haunted ruins or on a beach? One place we're going to seek out that will require a short hike off the bikes is the Cave of Caerbannog, home of the terrible beast of Arrrghhh. Not sure if we'll have to answer three questions or not to get there. Camping in there would be an experience and hopefully not the kind that gets us shot at by a local land owner.
