My RMR ride... 2nd attempt!!

I had some issues with photo posting the 1st time, so I'll try this again.

I'll begin with this... perhaps somewhat out of character, I've been interested in these bikes for a few years, and I finally found a killer deal on a new 2019. It's definitely a completely new riding experience for me, and the ultimate touring bike IMHO. Yeah, she's a big girl but she can dance... much better than might be expected...





The ride started by meeting up with my long time riding buddy, Victory Bell, in Green River, Utah...





The next morning, we rode to Grand Junction and picked up Colorado Hwy 141, heading to Ouray...









Early the next morning we headed south on US 550, stopping for breakfast at the Brown Bear Cafe in Silverton...

Leaving Silverton, we took US 550 south towards Durango, stopping briefly at Molas Pass, the 2nd time this day climbing to 11,000'...













After our photo stop, we continued on to Durango, then east on US 160 towards Pagosa Springs and South Fork...

At South Fork, we headed north on Colorado 149 towards our day's destination, Creede... we arrived dry, although there were showers all around us...



There is not a lot of lodging to choose from in Creede, but we got a room at the Aspen Inn... built in 1892, it was originally the Creede firehouse...



The following day dawned brightly, and we headed for Gunnison to meet up with the rest of the RMR gang...



We stopped briefly near Slumgullion Pass, 11,530', claimed to be the steepest paved, maintained road in Colorado. I think we exceeded FAA regulations for time spent above 10,000' without supplemental oxygen...



The next morning, Vic and I headed to Cottonwood Pass with Joe, Matt, and Bill Morgan... the new pavement was smooth as glass, and we were hauling ass over this beautiful 12,126' pass... later that afternoon we crossed paths with Jeff, who rode along with us back to base camp...



.A little later in the day, we all rode up to Crested Butte for a bite to eat...





The next day, as people were heading in every direction, Vic and I rode towards Black Canyon of the Gunnison, passing Blue Mesa Reservoir...







We spotted a couple of wild animals at this stop...



Continuing on toward Crawford, we had to stop briefly for a cattle drive... I didn't get any pics because I was too busy dodging cows and cow sh*t... a little farther along we stopped for a break...



While we were stopped, two riders went by, turned around, and joined us... it was Rob and Dale. We all rode back to base camp together through a few showers and some pretty slippery roads.

And that's about the end of my photos for this trip. Vic and I headed home the following day and were able to ride together as far as Montrose, where Vic headed home to Oregon and I headed home to Arizona.

The highlight of the ride, for me, was finally meeting and riding with friends, old and new... another epic road trip... I hope y'all enjoyed the ride, as well...

Brings back memories. My Great Grandfather was a Welsh miner who went to the USA to work as a miner in Silverton. My parents went over in about 1981 to visit and the following winter I went across and spent 2 weeks in the Rockies in January 1982 including about 4 or 5 days in Sliverton and a couple of days in Durango. There was a s**tload of snow but as a consequence I learned to crosscountry ski and had a great time. I remember driving through he first snowflakes of a blizzard across the pass South to Durango which shut the road to Slverton for 3 days and watching Superbowl XVI in Durango when the 49ers beat the Bengals 26-21. Great memories.

Half the fun of a rally is getting there, especially if you're on the bike riding with a buddy. Is that a K13S Victory is riding now? Didn't have a black K12S when we were all in Terlingua some years back?

Awesome photos Charlie. Those photos in the main street of the towns are great. Makes me want to walk down the street and soak it in. And stop at each bar for a beer.
