Mason Dixon line stones

From the opposite side in Pennsylvania



Drove around a bit and found the next one, marker 99 I believe. Standing in Pennsylvania and you'll notice the P.



In Maryland



Left there for Cumberland, MD with plans to ziz zag across West Virginia and home the next day. Here's an overlook from route 40.



Foggy when I got up the next morning but headed for Oldtown and a low water toll bridge Bill had shown me once. Here it is.



Also right there is part of the old C & O canal tow path, which was a canal dug to get goods from the Ohio Valley and down the Potomac to markets. Was completed around 1800 and was a vision of George Washington. Here's a photo of the canal.



Mules were used to pull the boats along the canal. Locks had to be installed to keep the water levels usable. Here's a lock.



From there I zipped on home in order to be back at work the next day. So there's your history lesson. History is a lot cooler riding a motorcycle. You heard it here first.

Great road trip. Somehow, out of probably a few thousand photos, I opened the exact folder with our own PA Mason Dixon Marker day ride from June 2014. We love finding quirky road trip things to go find and see. Thanks for posting! This marker is south of Waynesboro PA on Highway 997.

I stumbled upon that bridge many years ago riding thru the Maryland panhandle.

I was riding towards the east coast from Ohio but can't recall the final destination.

The first stone I got to near Hagerstown, MD

I don't know how I could have possibly missed any more work in September, but I wish that I had known, this is fairly close (60 miles) to me Wes. I may have even learned a few things with you that day.

LOL... no worries Wes about bar pics. All that's gonna change soon one way or another & we'll have plenty of opportunities for bar pics!!!

As for the historical dates & your book, I can only imagine the amount of research that was done to compile all that data.

Thanks for the great report and photos. I have a friend that invites me up to his private property near Emmitsburg Maryland for trials training and trail rides. I park my truck to unload near one of the these markers on his property. Lots of interesting history in this region of the country. More civil war era in Maryland and near the line and as you go north in PA you encounter more and more colonial area remnants and history.
