Ditched Work to Ride the Blue Ridge Parkway

Trying to burn vacation so I don't lose it and saw a three day stretch of sunny and temps in the low 70s on the BRP so ditched work to ride back in October. That's one of my favorite sayings, ditched work to ride! So the obligatory history picture, on the way out I was following the route of Lee's retreat from Petersburg and really needed to pee so here's a Covid related historical pee stop.

I spent the first night in Wytheville, VA. I have a friend from VDOT that lives out there and has a small cattle farm on the side. When I got up with him he was getting in some hay after work and told me to come over. I came over and got a pair of gloves and got in the barn and was helping stack hay bales. I stepped on a board and went through up to my hip on one leg. Luckily I had my riding pants on. If you don't want to see a picture of a guy with a big bruise on his leg look away now......

Downtown Wytheville has a cool office supply store with a giant pencil outside. Not the best picture, was dusk.

The rest are Parkway pictures. The first is the pedestrian bridge that runs under the parkway where it crosses the James. On my last day I rode from the north end down to here and back, about 130 miles total of fresh new pavement.

A few leaves changing but not a lot.

Was great to get out and the fresh pavement was awesome. Not sure how many more times I can get out that way anymore this year but it was fun while I was doing it.

How did you manage to ride after that bruise? Ouch.

ID:	26326 I absolutely love riding the BRP, two my of most favorite roads to ride have become the BRP and Chief Joseph highway, I could ride both those roads a million times and love every ride!

Haven't ridden the BRP, yet, but can attest to the greatness of Chief Joseph Pass. A must ride in the Rocky Mountains.

I was at the Richland Balsam (6053) overlook a few years ago in November and it started snowing. It's 20ish miles back to US276 where I could descend toward home. I figured, if I met a park Ranger, maybe they would understand my hast. That was a fun 20 mile ride back. Zero traffic!

Great ride tale Wes & a pretty good bruise too. I really enjoyed my ride on the BRP when Gary & I rode up to the BRPR 2 years ago... very pretty ride. I'd love to ride the whole thing one day when the leaves are on full color display.
Yeah, not too many more days we can ride. Wait a minute... I leave in Texas, what am I talking about?!?!?!?

469 miles end to end. Nice to hook up with Skyline Drive on the east end too!?
