Texas Hill Country 2019 Pictures

Debbie and I returned Monday from a 2 week trip to Texas. .
Not a single drop of rain
The ride to the Hill Country is a yearly ride for us and we normally go in April.
At times it can be cold leaving Iowa in April but this year it was comfortable.

2nd night was in Mineral Wells, Texas.
Steve has a shop and sometimes I have tires shipped there to have him mount and balance.

The wildflowers were good this year.

Part 2
Last October the concrete bridge at Kingsland was washed away in a flood and the DOT did a fast design and contract to have the bridge open next month.
I stopped to check on the progress.
A place to get the bikes under cover was handy when hail was forecast.

Good place for a burger.
Debbie likes to stop here on RR 335 to cool off by soaking her feet.
Texas has nice two lane road speed limits.
After the Leaky area we moved to Fredericksburg for one night and stayed at the Peach Tree Inn.
I think it was 2005 when we stayed here and it was not in the best shape.
It has changed hands and all the units have been gutted and redone.
We had covered parking again here.

Part 3
Heading north we stayed at Mineral Wells again because it was too hot to check out the old hotel and military base when we stayed here the 2nd night .

On the way back to Iowa we went through NW Arkansas.
Stopped at Sardis Lake Oklahoma to look at my map and stretch our legs.
Friday night I checked the weather for the Queen Wilhelmina Lodge and saw it would be clear Saturday night and Sunday morning, so I made a reservation.
This place is often in fog or low clouds.
The state park lodge reopened July 2015 after a 3 year renovation.

Old gas station in Mena Arkansas at the eastern end of Skyline Drive.
From Mena we took 23 up to Eureka Springs Ar.
Stopped at Turner Bend for fuel and a rest stop.
This is a popular store for kayaks, motorcycles and off road vehicles.
Last night of the trip was Eureka Springs Ar.

I can't figure out how to edit and add text between the pictures.

What works best for me Lee, especially when it's picture intensive is first I upload all my attachments. Then I do my text for them leaving some spaces where I want to insert the picture. Then I go in and put the pictures where they go according to the text. I find if I write a bunch of stuff and then upload the attachments it times out and asks me to log in again, which can have disastrous consequences.

Great report & pics too Lee. After all the years of heading to the Hill Country for the THCR, it was weird not having that in my schedule this year. Will definitely fix that for 2020.

As it turns out when we texted about maybe getting together on your way back home, I couldn't have met you guys anyway... I was in Austin last Friday - Sunday becasue of my daughter's wedding!

Thanks Lee for taking the time to bring us the Texas Hill Country. I also miss going to that Rally, but it hasn't worked out for me in several years and possibly not going to for a few more. But I'm glad you took the time to allow me to reminisce.
