    Boots Resoled

I have a pair of Gaerne G King boots that I absolutely love. This is them:

The heels had worn down so low that there was no outer layer and the inside of the heel had filled with rocks. They were also pretty worn around the ball of the foot. The tread was almost as bad as one of Mat's rear tires. I couldn't find a replacement sole from Gaerne and they said they had lost their importer for road boots in the US. I found a cobbler not too far from me that was an authorized repair shop for SIDI so I went over and talked with him. A SIDI sole wouldn't work because of the degree of arch in the Gaernes. A regular vibram sole wouldn't work either for the same reason. The cobbler not being one to give up easilly said he could replace the heel and replace the sole past the arch and grind it down to fit. He seemed confident so I left them with him. Here's how they turned out, I was pretty pleased.

Hopefully I've extended the life of my favorite boots a couple of years and I appreciated his out of the box thinking. Cost was $90, and Gaerne doesn't make this boot anymore so I was happy.

funny, I brought my old pair of boots that are very comfortable to have the same done last week ~ 90$ also, should be ready early Jan (no rush here). I have a new pair that I am just not wearing as they are not as comfy.

I'd say you found quite a good cobbler. We had Gaerne's a few years back and loved them. To bad they no longer have an importer.

Cobblers are hard to find any more.

Nice work Wes & I agree about cobblers. We've got one in the local mall of all places, who has been there for years & does great work. Lost count of how many shoes I've had resoled over the years. I'm on my 2nd pair of resoled Sidi's.

He's in Tappahannock Keith. On the left hand side before you get into the town, past the Shoneys and Wendys. Virginia Shoe Repair I think.

Here's a couple online boot repair sites if you don't have a cobbler close by.
I've heard of both places but have not used either one. I don't remember if you pay shipping one way or both ways.
