I saw a object lesson in how well a GS can handle a few years ago. We were getting ready for a ride over the dragon and another friend showed up on his GS. Nobody knew him but me and the rest of the young hotshots on sport bikes ribbed him about keeping up. With full GS hard luggage he left them all behind and was waiting at the store for all of them parked and with his gear off. They gathered around looking at the GS not believing they had all been skunked by a GS. He calmly said it is not the bike it is the rider who makes the difference. None of them knew he had been road racing for years. The GS with a good rider and street tires is a very capable ride.
