I was just reading on another forum, that when you first start up the OBD that you will have to plug it into your car and run an update for the scanner before it will work on the bike, is this correct?
if one could please give a detailed list of instructions and materials would be so appreciative.

I finally picked up a used android phone, I'm about to purchase the ODB LINK MX SCANNER and adapter, then purchase the professional version of the Motoscan app
was wandering if everyone that uses this set up, are you all still happy with it.

Absolutely! You may have initial connectivity issues and downloading updates, but dont give up. Once set up, its like magic. Make sure you are connected to home Wifi with strong signal.

          Aviator,
when I receive the ODB SCANNER, I read that I have to plug it into the car first to activate it, is there any truth to this or can I just plug it into the bike from the get go

I did not. Went straight to the bike. It did take a few minutes to get it going like I mentioned earlier. I think it was their server and activation issue. After that its all set.
Since the engine is not running, but ignition turned on, I plugged in my charger during that time so I dont have a dead batt. Worked out fine.

                Looks like a great deal.
Is $130 the total cost for the scanner, cable and app?

Does the scanner come with a cable or rectangular connector that fits the newer bikes making the total approx $110?

Our bikes are 2016 models. I think BMW went to the square connection in 2017 or 2018.
I have a GS911 but was asking so I could pass on the info to others.
If I did not already have a GS911 I would go for the OBD Link LX.

thank you all for the information you have shared in this thread. I bought the Motoscan OBD MX and the adaptor cord and downloaded the app with the $45.00 version of it and all is well. It worked flawless the first time. A buddy gave me an Android Samsung S6 phone I changed it, did as instructed and no more service reminder. Now I can use this on my K & F bikes

                        Thank you all

I bought the Pro GS911 a long time ago, I think it was $900 or so. What a waste of money. Nothing more than a code scanner and service interval reset. (well it activates actuators and calibrates TPMS if I recall properly).
The MotoScan you can actually do coding and a bunch of other functions. They should probably sell their own scanner plus adapters.
                          That's all I use now. I haven't used the GS911 in a long time.
It helped me code traction control on the K12R/S and help with a fuel strip.

I mean, it doesn't compare to what you can do with EDIABAS... but I've been bugging Patrique to help me, and he did. That software is tough...
This MotoScan solution will solve 99% of all issues better and cheaper than anything else.
