Replacement Bike Shopping

Since the K1300R has gone to the great Bike God in the sky, I'm doing a fair bit of looking at what's out there on offer, or soon to be on offer, and these take my fancy. What I end up with could be in the total opposite direction from these. As you guys are all well aware, its a woman's perogative to change her mind). But its a starting point.

I'll keep adding to this topic as I find things that I fancy.

So, anyway, after getting my stitches out yesterday we hopped over to Rick Gills to pick up a centre stand for Waz's Caponord. While he was doing that I took the opportunity to cruise around the floor. He had a couple of things that caught my eye:

The Katana looks sharp! And the DR is well, a DR. Tractor-like with great longevity. I like them both.

But these are completely different bikes. What is your goal with the new one? Commute plus leisure? Commute only?

Therein lies my problem: I don't know - LOL!

I know I need a commuter. The Fireblade is great for leisure. Its done three MotoGP trips over the Nullabor, and at 80k has plenty of life left in it. I know I can leisure with it. I can commute on it if push comes to shove, but ideally would like a backup bike.

Not a doubt in my mind that if I were buying a commuter bike, it would have to be Japanese, just for the reliability issues. Regular maintenance and tire changes and just keep going. The Kawasaki H2 SX SE would be near the top of the list, but I always had a soft spot for Suzuki.

I must admit that Kwaka did fleetingly cross my mind but for sure I would loose the remaining slither of my licence if I got that beast!!

What are your short or long term expectations for a replacement bike since the K1300R carried you all those glorious miles? That is some kind of riding!

At the moment, its just getting me from home to work and back, with fun along the way, seeing as I travel a 100 km round trip. Longer if the day is good and I'm not in a rush to get anywhere.

The Katana has a beak and a possum scraper, it must be an adventure bike.
Looks really sharp.

Fran, that Katana sure is sweet. Have you considered the Suzuki S1000f. A sport bike with a small faring (what a concept). They discontinued this model this year, but 2018 models can be had for only about $9k. Here's a review. http://www.motorcycledaily.com/2017/...d-ride-review/

Hey Bobby. No, I hadn't considered it. There wasn't one on the floor at the Suzuki dealer. Though I'm not a fan of the full fairing look, that was a good write-up. Thanks
