Went out on the RR yesterday heading up the highway to the mountain. Things just lined up perfectly to pass several cars and other bikes in a row several times using the power of the RR. When I got home I asked the wife if she remembered when I took her out on my first K1300S to show her what real acceleration felt like. She did but I then said compared to the RR the K was like riding on an Amish wagon. Got a good laugh out of her. She's not inclined nor is the "passenger seat" of the RR amenable for another experience. Just gotta take my word for it.......

The K1200S in 1st gear at 7000 rpms would literally take your breath away with a full throttle whack. No clutch, just whack 'er open. And I know that's slow compared to the RR. If I fit I'd have had one years ago when Lefty threw me his key and said take her for a spin. And they sound GREAT !!

For the S1000RR engine, I disagree about 2nd being the perfect gear... that motor wants to REV. They hit it at 60 kph (42 mph) and 4,000 RPM, 1st gear is good for over 100 mph I believe. It would have been an absolutely different start if he were in first gear (or 2nd gear roll-on that started at 8,000+ RPM), but who cares really? If I'm honest, the K-S did better than I would have expected, even with the skewed start.Originally posted by Surfer View PostDude, he took off on a roll in second, the perfect gear. Although the 13s did get a jump, but still, no slouch for a 562 pound sport touring bike.Matt

Agreed. First thing I noticed as well. When the rider started throttling up he was at 4k RPM in 2nd, not optimum. If he was at 8k RPM this would have been different! With that said, one of the things I like most about the K13S was all the usable power almost everywhere across the REV range.Originally posted by MattB View PostFor the S1000RR engine, I disagree about 2nd being the perfect gear... that motor wants to REV. Charlie, no doubt which one I'd pick for a 2,000 mile trip... actually, I made that choice for real back in 2009 (although the RR wasn't around back then) taking a twelve day 5800 mile romp around the western US on a K12S.Originally posted by Kneedragger View PostWhich bike would you prefer for a 2000 mile ride??
But in the context of this video, an acceleration comparison, it wasn't a fair fight the way that they played it out. If the RR is in first gear when they hit it at 40 mph this "race" looks completely different.Matt
