That sounds like they're skipping the crucial, large scale Phase 3 trial. Not good...i wouldn't trust that. Like the article said, they're not likely to get that approved in the US. If Fauci is skeptical, then we should be.

What do you think his motive is Karl?

Yeah he did early on when how the virus was spread was not known, and there was a lack of masks for health care workers. The fact he said that is eclipsed by the hundreds of times he's talked about the importance of masks. Fauci was a voice of reason amoung a group of politicians that don't believe in science.

Except for the numerous times he said not to wear them

Since February he's advocated wearing masks when it became clear how important they were. I wonder how many people would still be alive if there had been a clear message for how to protect one another. Humm...maybe 100k.

Perhaps it was simply that he was getting pressure from the administration to couch his comments a certain way and then decided he had more integrity and wasn't going to be bullied and was going to make the best recommendations based on the evolving knowledge of the virus. Since February he has been consistent in his message. If Fauci says he's reviewed the data and a vaccine is safe and effective I'll take it. You may have doubts about him personally but when it comes to this crisis his message is consistent with all the epidemiologist and that I'll trust.

I've followed Fauci most of his career.

I've always thought highly of him.

And part of the reason for that is he is/was willing to take a strong stand on issues. Even when confronted with a pushy POTUS (past, current or future).

              But, no one is infallible.

And whether the decisions/advice were based on incorrect science/data or not, some conclusions were still incorrect. And that doesn't make them correct.

I certainly don't think he should be nominated for an Emmy!

But Anthony's not alone. Andrew, the Surgeon General, and the CDC also made some incorrect decisions.

I remember seeing PSAs from the CDC on YouTube weeks after masks were being strongly recommended for the general public and these PSAs were still telling people not to wear masks.

BTW, Andrew certainly deserved the nomination and the win.

Yeah, no one's infallible. And with the evolution of knowledge about how this tricky is transmitted the researchers have to modify their thinking. Although there's been a lot of knowledge gained wer'e far from a complete understanding of this thing. We need to follow the data. Along those lines, neither Karin nor I have any affects/symptoms after having the injections yesterday. At this point I don't think we got the vaccine. Damn.

Someone explain what gives a piece of cloth or paper the ability to trap & hold a microscopic virus within its fibers.

It's not that it traps the virus, it's that it prevents the virus from being propelled to a greater distance with unrestricted exhalation. Even coughing into your elbow will slow the quick dispersal of the virus. A mask, in combination with distance from people and time in a general vicinity, is taken together to reduce the risk of infection. These are not guarantees of complete mitigation, but they are pieces to help slow the rate of infection.

With that said, we are all going to be infected one way or the other. My fatalism doesn't allow me to think that any of this makes a whole bunch of a difference.

Only matters if you have the virus & you cough

Of course there could be no motivation for him to support one vaccine over a competitors other than merit.

Exactly Karl. Bill Nye put a tik tok video out that explains it.

If I'm naked and I urinate, i am probably going to get a fair bit of liquid onto the person a metre (1 and 1/10 yards) away from me.

But if I'm wearing pants and I urinate, most of it is going to be contained within my pants.

There is a moral to this story but i can't think of it.

                Joe will know.

So wearing a mask when you have Covid is like peeing in your pants

What if someone likes to get peed upon. Asking for a friend... named Wes. Ask about his jail stories.

                Wes can explain

Karl, Since you don't trust Dr Fauci, who do you consider the authority on this matter. Is there any one person or entity that you trust? Where should we look for guidance?
