802Mike, I just don't trust the Russians. They've been the players behind the scenes of all the communist crap in this country (Nicaragua).
I can't see them having good intentions during this crisis.

      Well...
      1. There IS definitely a national plan... name a single time in history that a vaccine was developed in just a couple of months? The removal of restrictions, federal funding, etc... is ALL part of a plan, the fact that it is being widely distributed in the same year that it hit, it is difficult to say that it was without a strategy or a plan.

      2. I am exposed consistently at work and am within two feet of infected persons. In the time of a year, I have yet to get it (that I know of) and feel this is due to precautions I have taken.

      3. My parents both got hit hard and I think that the vaccine is great for some. I spent a week taking care of them... again, precautions have obviously kept me safe

      4. I am not planning on getting it because of #2 (my precautions are obviously working).

      5. We don't know anything about long term effects

      6. We don't know how long it will give any level of immunity, estimates vary from a month to years.

      7. Vaccinations don't allow for any different behavior or limitations.

As I am very much a risk vs. Gain type of guy, I see risk, but I do NOT see a lot of gain in my situation. I recognize that I am at risk of getting it but right now I have more risk of long term effects.

I am not anti-vax, I don't have a problem with the vaccine (I have questions but I am glad that others have the access) and I may very well change my mind (I do consider it quite often).

I'm also not one that typically get's the flu vaccine either. Again, not anti-vax, not judging, I just don't typically get it.

Long explanation but that is just the way it is.

I don't really have worries about the risk long term though I do agree that I have heard some long term effects and I am dealing with some in my father after he had it.He had a minor stroke about two weeks after COVID but there is question as to family history correlating to his age that may be more of a factor.

The long term effects of the virus or the long term effect of the vaccine, neither is really known at this juncture and so I am still in a wait and see mode. As I stated, I DO vacillate between the vaccine and waiting, ultimately, life will be the greatest measure.

As for protective measures... I take Magnesium and zinc nightly. This combination has been shown to keep the virus from replicating. When I have a patient onboard (most know but I fly medivac helicopters so I can't really pick and choose what I am exposed to and when I DO have a patient with COVID, they are within 2-3 feet of my face for 20-80 minutes), I have an N99 respirator which has been modified with communications, and I wear enclosed safety glasses (oakley Mframes with a seal) since the virus also spreads very well through the tear ducts and sinus system. I also take vitamins, and am eating better. Having a wife that is a Nurse is great too as she understands what I don't. Our son still has friends over and that may be our biggest risk factor though a few have had it and he hasn't. In the end, with my entire family having had hundreds of known close contacts, all three of us have yet to get it (that we know of) and so we feel that what we are doing is working.

Working in the medical field is a blessing/curse. We understand a lot of it, yet since we are around it all the time, we are also very comfortable. We did cancel family thanksgiving with my parents and my wife's grandmother because of it.

I don't feel that my way is the greatest or for all, but right now it seems to work for me. I pray that I am making the right decision for myself and we have told our son (17) that we support his decisions regarding the vaccine as well... none of us are opposed to it though none of us have received it either. I suspect it will be mandatory in the next year.

Just so you know, I am skeptical of anything the government say we all should do, like take a vaccine. I remember distinctly the debacle of the response to the swine flu back in the 1970s, and the political implications.
      https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-...y27-story.html
The current pandemic is different however as it's clear how dangerous it is, both in the short and long term. For me, the evidence is clear that the risk of illness outweighs any potential side effects. That's IMHO.

Bobby, thanks for linking to the article. For the LA Times that was a pretty measured article - of course, that was in 2009 and their "guy" was President.

Remember "Catch 22" - If you're crazy, "Section 8" allows you to be discharged from the military. However, if you apply for a Section 8 discharge you must realize that it is a way out, and therefore you must be sane enough to serve.

Well, earlier this month Los Angeles County opened the vaccine availability to those over 65 - and since I qualify I've been trying, daily, to sign up for the vaccine, anywhere within 50 miles of where I live, with no luck, there simply are no appointments available, and the website design is simply ridiculous, every time you select a different location, you have to fill out a multipage form that does not save - so if you see a site that says "appointments available", you click the site, spend several minutes to fill out the form, and by the time you complete the form, there are no appointments available.

Hopefully, in a few weeks this will normalize, but wow is it frustrating.

That is so lame that the state government is making it so difficult. I can think of a lot of ways to fix it, including ratcheting down to age priority based on people's ages. I.e., 70, 68, 66, 65, rather than 75, 70, 65 etc. How stupid.

We're part time Florida residents so we're eligible for vaccination here.

We got online this morning for the vaccination rounds coming on this Thursday and Friday and sponsored by the state.

Easy process but still more demand than supply.

Florida has about 4M residents that are 65 and older.

So it may take a few weeks to get an appointments for everyone that wants the vaccine in this age group.

About 1M residents have been vaccinated with the first dose so far.

You can also phone in for an appointment but that method is also unable to meet the current demand.

You can register 3 people at a time by phone and 2 online.

Have to say that this has been handled pretty well here in KY considering. I get my 2nd shot next week. The covid situation and how it was handled is one of the biggest fuckups in US history.

Can you imagine the shit you'd get if you told ALL Americans
that they had to stay inside and wear masks all the time!

Yesterday a friend told us she reacted to her 2nd vaccine. She's a Hospice volunteer.
About 10 hours after the shot she felt like she was freezing, started to jerk, then had some paralysis and could not talk.
Don't remember exactly how long it lasted, a hour or two??
        Next day she felt fine.

Didn't ask which shot she got.

Forgot to mention, do not take an anti inflammatory( AKA ibuprofen) before or soon after the vaccine. Tylenol is OK.

I asked two nurses that have had the shots, both said they were not told.
Both had soreness and felt sick for about three days after the second dose.
One had Manerva the other Phyzer.

"The most commonly reported side effects, which typically lasted several days,
were pain at the injection site, tiredness, headache, muscle pain, chills, joint
pain, swollen lymph nodes in the same arm as the injection, nausea and
          vomiting, and fever."

Very good point. I have heard almost overwhelmingly in the medical field, NO NSAIDS... for the virus OR the vaccine.

Most of our 65 and over relatives and friends have at least gotten the first shot.

Remembering back 12 months it seemed there was debate as to whether Covid would even be a problem in the USA.

He also said he was cutting red-tape so the vaccine could be tested early and that distribution would begin before the end of 2020. Lots of people who laughed at that were the first in line for the Trump vaccine. Just sayin.'

The hospitals around here have reversed course on the practice of intubating to wait out the virus. The vent seems to make the virus even more deadly. Throughout this thing, we have had to learn what works and what doesn't and it is not the same for everyone.

Was able to get dose 1 of the Moderna vaccine this morning, about a 40 minute drive through experience, so far no side effects. Second does first week of March, I really hope it works as advertised and enough of the population receives the vaccine so we can put this disease to bed and try to get back to normal, whatever that is anymore.
