Its amazing how little research exist on healthy foods. Ex: is plant based saturated fat equally as unhealthy as animal based saturated fat? Research says plant based is OK, but the American Heart Association refuses to change their stance and keeps all saturated fats lumped together. On that theme is coconut healthy of not? Again, conflicting research. Eggs are good. No wait., eggs are bad. Or are they? Steak is good, in moderation. What does "moderation" really mean? Ago so on and so forth, ad nauseum.

Having one's sternum snapped open like a walnut at Christmas tends to increase ones interest in such matters.

There's a current Harvard medical student that was in the news for consuming something like 700 eggs in one month without an increase in his serum cholesterol. I think it even dropped. He proposes that gut absorption of cholesterol is regulated internally.
And I worked with a research team back in the 70's that studied egg consumption in children and they also reported no increase in serum cholesterol with egg consumption.

Is Christmas the recommended time for snapping open sternums?

    Coming Full Circle?

Michael F. Jacobson's Center for Science in the Public Interest is a well meaning organization that seems to be causing more health problems than solving them.

Jacobson initially campaigned to stop McDonald's from using animal fat for frying, lobbying the. company to use trans-fats.

Then when trans-fats were found to be worse, they lobbied for the use of seed oils.

Now it appears that McDonald's may have had it right from the get go.

And here I was thinking I did good walking a mile and a half 6 days a week (5 to 8 degree slopes).

It doesn't take much. For significant health benefits some report that as little as an hour and a half of yoga per week rivals the same amount of time doing aerobic exercise.

      Longevity Notes: Brain Regeneration.

There is evidence that cold exposure can help with brain regeneration and perhaps stave off dementia. It apparently causes the release of epinephrine and that causes neuron regeneration and removal of damaged neurons.

A suggested routine is to slowly work up to 30 seconds of cold water only at the end of each shower.

How much walking off do you need to do? I've got a little group that I sometimes walk off with

Guys, nice knowing you. I shot my mouth off to some younger friends, and I now find myself going snow skiing this weekend for the first time since 2008, I hope I don't end up like Lewis! And he apparently knew HOW to ski.

Drink heavily. When you wipe out you won't worry feel it. That will come in the days that follow.

Jimmy Carter was asked once how he and his wife stayed so healthy. He said, "When we got married, we made a promise that when we argued, the loser had to run 5 miles. So, for 77 years, I ran 5 miles a day!"
Then he was asked, "So, how did Rosalyn stay so healthy?"
He said, "She followed me to make sure I actually ran it."

Guys, here's your ski report: I made it back in once piece from my skiing adventure. Skied amazingly well. I guess I am sort of a risk taker. Some of the younger guys were always in control and were surprised when they actually fell. I fell four or five times a day, but ALMOST fell ten times every run. Loved it. Can't believe I can still parallel ski in the "old school" way. Fun.

Snow at Red River NM was perfect. Good base with 6 inches of fresh dry powder over the 3-day weekend we were there.

I took my oldest daughter for lessons at Cochran Ski Area when she was a tween and
decided that I may as well learn too since I had to be there.
My instructor was Barbara Cochran.... I didn't do too bad and met some people there,
kept in touch and skied together often. My favorite was the night skiing at Bolton Valley.
I took a fall once to avoid hitting a kid while skiing through the woods back to the lodge.
I thought sure that I'd broken my ankle because I sat back on my skies to stop. I skied
back to my car basically on one leg, took the skies off and never put them on again.
Prefer to hike, snowshoe and half-ass x-country ski now.
I tell people that I motorcycle now because it's safer. It gets some raised eyebrows.

I learned to ski at the Dartmouth Skiway back in the 70's. The most memorable feature there was a large cliff , Holts Ledge. It was near the top of the slopes and you only needed to ski a little away from the main slopes to get there. A fence was near the edge to keep you from going over if you lost control.

        "Youthful Brain Supplement"

        Snake Oil?

Probably safe to take for young healthy people not on medications but most likely worthless unless you have a B12 deficiency.

Did some fast trekking for over 3 miles last month while in Florida. Got severe shin splints and had trouble walking. Quintuple therapy with Blue Emu, Icy Hot,, ASA, Tylenol, and a topical NSAID with quick success.

        The Temperature Law

According to some, the lower your resting temperature, the better your longevity.

Bryon Johnson, as in the Don't Die project, has a resting temp of 94.6.

The Temperature Law also applies across animal species.

I'm not doing the Mid-South 100 Gravel Race tomorrow. First time in 14 years I haven't at least started. (8 time finisher, even in some mud years).

Maybe THIS will help me get to 105!

Don't know if this is true, but I want to believe it. I took the first shot, but timed out too long to take the second one timely. My doctor said, forget it. One was enough, so long as I didn't get diabetes or become morbidly obese. I'll work on those.
