I wouldn't be the one to know about THCR, but you are telling me that it's not a Thurs, Fri, Sat deal Lee? Suppose good (and bad) for me to know. I was hoping that it was the standard and was gonna try to work some magic... see if I could get work to fly me down for a customer visit and then drag some chrome on the way to THCR on my rented Harley.

It was during the week for a couple reasons.
Easier to get a group discount on the motel and there's fewer Harley road blocks during the week.

If the goal of the dual sport riding is to spend time in the San Juans (Cinnamon, Hurricane, California, Engineer, other passes & Corkscrew Gulch Rd) or over Ophir toward Telluride, then have you considered basing yourself in Ouray instead of Lake City? Lake City is a pretty small place, quaint and welcoming, but pretty limited choices for food, lodging, and entertainment. Ouray is more centrally located to the more challenging riding in the passes and has way more to offer when off the bikes.

Totally the right call to be there mid-week. All accounts of finding yourself in a caravan of jeeps and ATVs crawling around up there on the weekends are pretty credible reports. We were there mid-week this past September and saw less than a handful of other ATVs or riders up there all day.

I totally get it and same for me. I've ridden the TAT route from Lake City to Moab and it's a worthy track that goes by the 3 Step Hideaway. Scott and Julie are great hosts and they have a well equipped self-maintenance facility there for anything bike oriented. Riding through there and up through the La Sals is pretty easy but crazy good scenery as you drop down in to Moab by Castle Valley. I have tons of tracks in Colorado and Utah including multiple versions of the TAT. Feel free to contact me if you'd like any of the that in some GPX files.

Just to clarify Bill Morgan's post earlier, this is not the Rally that we are talking about riding. This is an additional bit of off-road riding. The rally will be posted in a separate thread and made into a sticky post. The dates and tracks associated with the dual-sport stuff will be based on the dates of the RMR. When we get the hotel reserved, then all of that is first. I have given Bill a firm deadline and will make sure to stay on him for getting the RMR done. LOL!

I snapped this photo of the map at the bottom of Corkscrew Gulch Rd. It's not a very good/complete map but it shows the orientation to Ourray, Silverton, and Lake City for the Alpine Loop.
